Overview
The Hwacheon i2 is a multitasking machine that combines a turning spindle, a second spindle and a B-axis milling head with a 40-tool magazine. It holds 8 + 8 in chucks on the main and second spindle, takes Ø65 mm (Ø2.6 in) bar, turns up to Ø600 mm (Ø23.6 in) and reaches 1,100 mm (43.3 in) of turning length. The main spindle runs to 5,000 rpm on an A2-6 nose with 22 / 15 kW (29.5 / 20.1 hp).
The milling head is what puts it in a different class from a turret machine. It takes HSK-T63 tooling (CAPTO C6 as an option), runs to 12,000 rpm with 20,000 rpm optional, and swivels on a B axis through ±120°. The B axis positions in 0.0001° steps and clamps in 5° steps, while the milling spindle itself indexes in 15° steps on a curvic coupling so it can hold turning tools. Tools are chosen by fixed address and can be up to 300 mm (11.8 in) long and 12 kgf (26 lb), and Ø90 mm (Ø3.5 in) with the neighbouring pockets loaded or Ø130 mm (Ø5.1 in) with them empty. The magazine can be raised to 80 tools.
Travel is 630 mm (24.8 in) in X, ±150 mm (±5.9 in) in Y and 1,165 mm (45.9 in) in Z, and the A axis travels 1,155 mm (45.5 in). Rapids are 48 m/min (1,890 ipm) on X and Y, 36 m/min (1,417 ipm) on Z and 30 m/min (1,181 ipm) on A, and the B axis swings at 40 rpm.
The Hwacheon C2 shares the A2-6 nose, 5,000 rpm and Ø65 mm (Ø2.6 in) bar, but works from an 18-station turret and a 12-tool magazine with ±60 mm (±2.4 in) of Y. The i2 is the machine for parts with compound-angle holes and faces, or for jobs that need more tools than a turret holds. It needs 83 kVA, a 310 L coolant tank and 5,592 x 2,850 mm (220.2 x 112.2 in) of floor, stands 2,781 mm (109.5 in) high and weighs 14,000 kgf (30,864 lb). Control is HARMONY.
