The Citizen Miyano ABX-38 is a twin-spindle bar lathe sized for stock up to 38 mm (1.50 in), with a 6,000 RPM main spindle, a 6,000 RPM sub spindle and driven tools to 5,000 RPM. It is not in Citizen's current lineup and may be an older model, so treat this page as a reference for a secondhand machine rather than one you can order new. Nobody has been able to check the listed figures against a Citizen product page.
The listed main spindle motor is 7.5 / 11 kW (10 / 15 HP) and the sub spindle motor 3.7 / 5.5 kW (5 / 7.4 HP), so the second spindle is set up for back-end finishing and cut-off faces rather than heavy roughing. Maximum machining length is 200 mm (7.87 in). Driven tools are listed at 1.5 / 2.2 kW (2 / 3 HP), which suits cross drilling, tapping and light flats on bar parts.
The table gives up to 20 tool positions, depending on configuration, and a FANUC control. Because the position count depends on how the machine was built, check the actual turret and driven-tool layout of any machine you inspect. The listed weight is approx. 3,500 kg (7,716 lbs).
Against the current Miyano ABX-51SYY2, which takes 51 mm (2.01 in) bar and weighs 10,900 kg (24,030 lb), the ABX-38 is a much smaller machine for smaller bar.
