Overview

The Huron MTX 400 is the largest MTX multi-tasking centre, with an 800 mm (31.5 in) swing, a turning diameter of 780 mm and turning lengths of 2,000/3,000 mm. It weighs 30,000/35,000 kg depending on the bed, and it changes the MTX layout in two ways.

First, there is no lower turret. The rows for it are blank in Huron's table. All cutting is done from the B-axis head, which on this model is a far heavier unit: HSK100T tooling, 44/33 kW, 400/300 Nm and 6,000 rpm. Second, the Y axis is no longer a short symmetric stroke. It travels 600 mm, from -200 to +400 mm, enough to mill large flats and pockets well off the centreline.

The main spindle is an A2-11 unit with 51/37 kW and 1,902/1,380 Nm at up to 3,300 rpm, a 115 mm bore and a 380 mm chuck. The alternative is A2-15 with a 145 mm bore, 60 kW and 2,400 Nm at 2,500 rpm. Either can be mirrored on the sub spindle side.

Axis speeds reflect the mass: 20/15/20 m/min on X1, Y and Z1. The main magazine holds 36 tools up to 700 mm long and 25 kg, and a sub magazine takes 3 tools up to 1,000 mm long and 100 kg. The tailstock is MT 6 with a 150 mm quill.
