Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Huron DX 500-2000 A that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Huron DX 500-2000 A is a two-metre heavy lathe with a fast spindle. It turns 2,000 mm (78.7 in) in length and 800 mm in diameter, weighs 12,500 kg (27,557 lb), and its A2-8 spindle runs 50-2,500 rpm.
A long bed with the A spindle is aimed at shafts. Rolls for paper and steel mills, long transmission shafts and columns often have journals far smaller than their bodies, and those journals need rpm. The 80 mm bore takes 65 mm bar. Power is 22/18.5 kW with Fanuc and 27.8/18.5 kW with Siemens.
Length affects the accuracy statement. Z-axis positioning is 0.02 mm and Z repeatability 0.008 mm, while X stays at 0.01 mm and 0.005 mm. Diameters depend on the X axis, so diameter tolerance is not affected by the longer bed, but shoulder positions over two metres deserve a check against the drawing.
The tailstock has a 130 mm quill and a thrust of up to 1,000 kgf. No steady rest is listed in Huron's table, and a slender two-metre part will need one. X travel is 410 mm with a standard turning diameter of 600 mm. The turret is the 8-station heavy-duty servo type with 32 x 32 mm tools. The machine is 6,930 mm long and 2,940 mm wide.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Maximum turning length is 2,000 mm and maximum turning diameter 800 mm, with a standard turning diameter of 600 mm and a swing over bed of 825 mm.
02
Positioning of 0.01/0.02 mm and repeatability of 0.005/0.008 mm for X and Z. The X axis, which sets diameters, carries the tighter figures.
03
An A2-8 spindle with an 80 mm bore and 65 mm of bar capacity at 50-2,500 rpm. Motor power is 22/18.5 kW with Fanuc and 27.8/18.5 kW with Siemens.
04
Approximately 12,500 kg (27,557 lb). It is about 6,930 mm long, 2,940 mm wide and 2,250 mm high. Huron marks these values as approximate.
