Overview
The Huron DX 250-500 is a short-bed chucking lathe with a large diameter capacity for its size. It turns up to 490 mm (19.3 in) across and 500 mm long, with 250 mm of X travel, on a machine weighing 4,000 kg (8,818 lb).
It opens the DX 250/350 series, which Huron builds on a monoblock bed with a 45° slant structure and roller-type linear guideways. Steeper bed angle and roller guides are the upgrades over the DX 200 family, aimed at heavier cuts and hard-part turning. Within the series this model is the lightest by a wide margin and the only one with a 500 mm swing.
The spindle is an A2-8 unit with a 90 mm bore, 75 mm of bar capacity and a 50-3,500 rpm range. Motor power is listed as 14.4/11 kW for Siemens and 15/11 kW for Fanuc. That is the fastest spindle in the DX 250/350 table, where the DX 250-700 stops at 2,500 rpm.
An 8-station bi-directional servo turret holds 25 x 25 mm tools and 40 mm boring bars, and Huron notes that a live-tool turret is available as an option for milling operations. The tailstock has an 85 mm quill and up to 500 kgf of thrust. Positioning is 0.007 mm and repeatability 0.005 mm. Footprint is 2,400 x 1,600 mm.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 490 mm turning diameter on a 2,400 x 1,600 mm footprint
- 50-3,500 rpm, the highest speed range in the DX 250/350 series
- 75 mm bar capacity through a 90 mm bore
- 45° slant bed with roller-type linear guideways
- Live-tool turret available as an option
Limitations
- Turning length is limited to 500 mm
- Swing over bed is 500 mm, against 600 mm on the DX 250-700
- Tailstock quill is 85 mm, smaller than the 100 mm of the DX 250-700
- Driven tools are an option, not part of the listed specification
