Huron DX 500-1250 A

The Huron DX 500-1250 A moves the DX Large series up to an 800 mm (31.5 in) turning diameter. It has 410 mm of X travel, a standard turning diameter of 600 mm and 1,250 mm of turning length, and it weighs 10,000 kg (22,046 lb).

Compared with the 1,000 mm bed, more than length changes. The swing over the bed is 825 mm, and the cross slide travels further, so the 1,250 machines are a size larger in diameter as well. Accuracy is quoted per axis from here on: 0.01/0.015 mm positioning and 0.005/0.007 mm repeatability for X and Z.

The A version takes the A2-8 spindle, with an 80 mm bore, 65 mm of bar capacity and a 50-2,500 rpm range. Power is 22/18.5 kW on Fanuc and 27.8/18.5 kW on Siemens. A fast spindle on a machine this large is useful for parts such as brake drums, pulleys and thin-walled rings, where diameters are big but cuts are light and finish matters.

The tailstock gives up to 1,000 kgf through a 130 mm quill. The 8-station servo turret holds 32 x 32 mm tools and 50 mm boring bars. Rapid feed is 24 m/min. The machine is 5,875 mm long, 2,860 mm wide and 2,250 mm high. Huron lists a live-tool turret as an option across the series.
