Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Huron DX 250-1000 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
With a full metre between chuck and centre, the Huron DX 250-1000 is the shaft version of the DX 250. It turns 1,000 mm (39.4 in) in length and 480 mm in diameter, on a 45° slant-bed machine weighing 6,000 kg (13,228 lb).
Everything except the bed length is shared with the DX 250-700. The A2-8 spindle has an 80 mm bore, passes 65 mm bar and runs 50-2,500 rpm, with 15.6/12 kW from the Siemens motor or 15/11 kW from the Fanuc motor. Cross travel is 250 mm. The extra 300 mm of bed adds only 250 kg, so the structure per unit length is much the same.
For metre-long work the tailstock matters. Huron fits a 100 mm quill with 120 mm of stroke and adjustable thrust up to 500 kgf, operated hydraulically. On slender shafts the 500 kgf limit and the absence of a steady rest in the table are the points to discuss with Huron.
The machine is 3,500 mm long and 1,890 mm wide. Rapid feed is 24 m/min, positioning 0.01 mm and repeatability 0.005 mm. An 8-station bi-directional servo turret is standard, and the series offers a live-tool turret as an option. Roller-type guideways and the monoblock bed are intended to keep vibration down on long cuts.
