Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Huron DX 170 nvu that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Huron DX 170 nvu puts a 44 mm bar capacity into the smallest DX enclosure. It shares the 1,920 x 1,500 mm footprint and 120 x 240 mm travels of the DX 135 nvu, but its A2-5 spindle has a 55 mm bore and more power.
That makes it a bar machine first. Motor power is 7.2/5.5 kW with the Siemens package and 7.5/5.5 kW with Fanuc, over a 50-4,000 rpm range. Parts are short, since Z travel and turning length are 240 mm (9.4 in), but the bar can be up to 44 mm, which covers a wide spread of fittings, nuts, spacers and connector bodies.
One line in Huron's table is worth noting. Maximum turning diameter is given as 200 mm, slightly below the 220 mm of the DX 135 nvu, while the standard turning diameter is 170 mm on both. The larger spindle and chuck appear to take some clearance.
The turret has 8 stations for 25 x 25 tools and boring bars up to 32 mm, and Huron quotes 0.5 sec for a tool change. A hydraulic-quill tailstock is listed with a 75 mm quill and 300 kgf of thrust. Weight is 2,600 kg (5,732 lb). Positioning is 0.007 mm and repeatability 0.005 mm, with rapids of 24 m/min. The nvu styling brings a 90° tilting operator panel and rear chip disposal.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Up to 44 mm, through a 55 mm spindle bore on an A2-5 nose. The smaller DX 135 nvu takes 30 mm bar through a 39 mm bore.
02
X travel is 120 mm and Z travel 240 mm. Standard turning diameter is 170 mm, maximum turning diameter 200 mm and maximum turning length 240 mm, over a 400 mm swing.
03
The speed range is 50-4,000 rpm. Huron lists 7.2/5.5 kW for the Siemens spindle motor and 7.5/5.5 kW for the Fanuc one, without naming the duty cycles.
04
Approximately 1,920 mm long, 1,500 mm wide and 1,700 mm high, with a weight of about 2,600 kg (5,732 lb). Those are the same outside dimensions as the DX 135 nvu.
