Honor Seiki VL-86A/AR

The Honor Seiki VL-86A/AR is a one-metre-swing vertical lathe: 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of swing, an 860 mm (33.9 in) turning diameter and 810 mm (31.9 in) of turning height over a 533 mm (21 in) chuck. It is the largest High Speed Series model that still ships with a hydraulic 3-jaw chuck as standard, and its spindle range is 25-1,500 rpm.

That last point matters for production work. One size up, the VL-100A/AR comes with a manual 4-jaw chuck and makes the hydraulic chuck an option, which says something about the kind of part each machine expects. The VL-86A/AR is still a machine for repeat chucking of round parts, loaded and clamped hydraulically, at up to 850 kg (1,874 lb) per piece. For odd-shaped one-offs, a manual chuck is on its option list.

Within its own page it has the most height. The VL-86M turns 700 mm (27.5 in) tall and 800 mm (31.5 in) across, and the VL-86H turns 800 mm (31.5 in) tall with 4/6/8 tool positions. This column keeps 12 tool positions and the full 810 mm.

Top speed falls as the series grows, from 2,500 rpm on the VL-46A/AR to 1,500 rpm here, which is normal for a larger chuck. Honor Seiki describes the spindle motor as a wide range type and offers both a motor upgrade and a dual speed gearbox, but leaves power and torque off the page along with travels, weight and the standard control. Coolant through the turret, bed wash down and a hinge type chip conveyor are included.
