Overview
The Starrag Berthiez TVU Series is a family of turning machines built completely in cast iron and equipped to turn, bore, mill and grind on one machine. Starrag's series page gives no diameters, heights or loads. What it does describe is how the machines are tooled and automated, and that is where a buyer has choices to make.
Milling is done with a milling spindle attachment, and an angular milling head set at 90° reaches features on the side of the part. Together with grinding, this lets a turned part receive its milled flats and slots, bored holes and ground seats without leaving the machine.
Tool storage comes in three levels. A disc magazine has 30 or 50 positions. A chain magazine has 60, 80 or 120 positions. A tool robot serves 120, 160 or 250 positions. A pallet change is optional, and the control is either a Siemens SINUMERIK ONE or a Fanuc 31i. The right combination depends on batch size: a disc magazine suits repeat work on a few part types, while the tool robot and the pallet change are for mixed production that has to run with little attention.
