Mazak QTE-100MY

The Mazak QTE-100MY is a 6 in chuck turning center that Mazak's model list configures as Milling, Y-axis. Y travel is 4 in (102 mm), the milling spindle runs to 4,500 rpm and the main spindle to 6,000 rpm, on the 500U bed with 8 in (203 mm) of X and 24 in (610 mm) of Z.

This is the single-spindle way to get off-centre features on small parts. A flat, a keyway or a cross hole offset from the axis is cut by moving the tool in Y, so its width and position come from the program and not from the cutter diameter. The configuration has no second spindle, so anything on the back of the part is a second setup. If that second setup is routine, the QTE-100MSY adds a second spindle with a 5 in chuck to the same Y axis.

The turning envelope is a Ø13 in (330 mm) maximum turning diameter and a 22 in (559 mm) maximum turning length under a Ø27 in (686 mm) swing, with Ø2 in (51 mm) of bar capacity and 12 tools. The chuck is small against that swing, which marks this as a machine for small-diameter work at speed and not one for filling the envelope.

Mazak's table for this model has no power or torque rows, for the main spindle or for the milling spindle. The QTE-100M table does give a rotary tool motor, 7 kW (40% ED), and whether the MY carries the same one is a question for Mazak. For the series, Mazak describes MAZATROL SmoothEz with a digital setup function that replicates the machine on an office PC, so setup can be prepared away from the machine.
