HNK NT-30/40 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the HNK NT-30/40 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from HNK or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

From the HNK NT-30/40 upward, the NT specification stops being a single machine and becomes a menu. This vertical turning lathe has a 3,000 mm (118.1 in) table and 4,000 mm (157.5 in) of swing and cutting diameter, but the ram head's Z travel is listed as 1,300/1,500/2,000/2,200/2,500 mm (51.2/59.1/78.7/86.6/98.4 in) and the ram section as 300 x 300, 350 x 350 or 400 x 400 mm (11.8 x 11.8, 13.8 x 13.8 or 15.7 x 15.7 in).

Those two rows belong together. A long Z stroke on a slim ram gives reach into deep bores at the cost of stiffness when extended; a short stroke on the 400 x 400 mm (15.7 x 15.7 in) section is the roughing configuration. HNK's table does not pair them, so the buyer has to state the deepest feature and the heaviest cut and let the maker propose the combination.

The fixed figures are these. Table load is 30,000 kg (66,138 lb). Turning height is 2,200 mm (86.6 in), with the cross rail moving 250 mm (9.8 in) x 6 steps. X travel runs from -200 to +2,225 mm (-7.9 to +87.6 in). The table motor is A.C 60/75 kW (80.5/100.6 hp), cont/30min, for a top speed of about 100 rpm in two steps, and tool shanks are 40 x 40 mm (1.6 x 1.6 in).

Fanuc 31i-B and Siemens 840D are both listed. The smaller NT-25/30 comes with one ram, 240 x 240 mm (9.4 x 9.4 in), and one Z travel.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Three ram sections listed, up to 400 x 400 mm (15.7 x 15.7 in)
  • Five Z travels listed, from 1,300 to 2,500 mm (51.2 to 98.4 in)
  • 30,000 kg (66,138 lb) table load with an A.C 60/75 kW (80.5/100.6 hp) motor
  • Cross rail moves 250 mm (9.8 in) x 6 steps under a 2,200 mm (86.6 in) turning height

Limitations

  • The table does not say which ram goes with which Z travel; it has to be settled with HNK
  • Table speed is about 100 rpm at most
  • Tool shank is still 40 x 40 mm (1.6 x 1.6 in); 60 x 60 mm (2.4 x 2.4 in) starts at the NT-50/60

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Why does the NT-30/40 list several ram sizes?

HNK's table gives the ram as 300 x 300/350 x 350/400 x 400 mm (11.8 x 11.8/13.8 x 13.8/15.7 x 15.7 in) without saying which is the base size. Read it as the range the machine can be built with, and have the section confirmed in the quotation together with the Z travel.

02 Which Z travels can the NT-30/40 be built with?

The vertical travel of the ram head is listed as 1,300/1,500/2,000/2,200/2,500 mm (51.2/59.1/78.7/86.6/98.4 in). The row is star-marked, and HNK states that starred items can be changed according to the customer's requirements.

03 How does the NT-30/40 compare with the NT-25/30?

The NT-30/40 carries 30,000 kg (66,138 lb) on a 3,000 mm (118.1 in) table with an A.C 60/75 kW (80.5/100.6 hp) motor. The NT-25/30 carries 20,000 kg (44,092 lb) on a 2,500 mm (98.4 in) table with A.C 45/55 kW (60.3/73.8 hp) and a single 240 x 240 mm (9.4 x 9.4 in) ram.

04 How far does the NT-30/40 cross rail travel?

250 mm (9.8 in) x 6 steps. The rail is set for the height of the part, up to the 2,200 mm (86.6 in) maximum turning height, and the ram head covers the remaining distance with its Z stroke.
