Overview

The Hartford HCMC-1370 is where the HCMC box-guideway line becomes a pure 50-taper family. It has 1,300 mm (51.2 in) of X travel, 700 mm (27.6 in) of Y and 660 mm (26.0 in) of Z, and its spindle nose is listed as #50 only.

Three changes mark the step from the smaller models. The gear-head spindle gains a low range, 4,000 / 6,000 / 8,000 rpm, where the HCMC-1365 lists 6,000 / 8,000 rpm. The motor list is extended upward: 7.5 / 11 kW as the base, with 15 / 18.5 kW and 22 / 26 kW as options (Cont. / 30 min). And Hartford says guideway spacing on the X axis is increased by 35%, to remove table overhang with heavier workpieces.

The table measures 1,450 x 700 mm (57.1 x 27.6 in) and is rated for 1,500 kg (3,307 lb). Its depth equals the Y travel. A DDS spindle at 10,000 / 12,000 rpm is the alternative to the gear head for finishing passes.

The tool changer is an arm type with 24 pockets, and 30, 32 or 40 are listed in brackets. Shanks are BT50, or BBT, CAT or DIN69871. As on the other HCMC machines the Z axis is counterweighted, the spindle housing is cast in one piece with the head, and the Air Suspension function is credited by Hartford with 50% less quadrant error and 30% less backlash error.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • #50 gear-head spindle with a 4,000 rpm low range (4,000 / 6,000 / 8,000 rpm)
  • Motor options up to 22 / 26 kW (Cont. / 30 min)
  • X-axis guideway spacing increased by 35% to eliminate overhang, per Hartford
  • Table depth and Y travel both 700 mm (27.6 in)
  • Arm-type magazine of 24 tools with 30, 32 or 40 listed

Limitations

  • No #40 spindle; the top speed offered is 12,000 rpm (DDS)
  • The base motor is only 7.5 / 11 kW, so the larger motors must be ordered as options
  • Table load of 1,500 kg (3,307 lb) is modest for a 50-taper box-way machine
  • Dual chip screws on the base are listed for other HCMC sizes but not on this model's page

Best For

Heavy roughing of die steel with large-diameter cutters Cast-iron housings and machine parts up to 1,500 kg (3,307 lb) Deep-slotting and face milling at low spindle speeds Work that needs 700 mm (27.6 in) of Y on a box-way machine

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What spindle does the Hartford HCMC-1370 have?

A #50 spindle. The gear-head version is listed at 4,000 / 6,000 / 8,000 rpm and the DDS version at 10,000 / 12,000 rpm. The spindle drive motor is 7.5 / 11 kW, with 15 / 18.5 kW and 22 / 26 kW as options (Cont. / 30 min).

02 How is the HCMC-1370 different from the HCMC-1365?

X travel is the same 1,300 mm (51.2 in). The HCMC-1365 offers #40 or #50 spindles, 650 mm (25.6 in) of Y and a 1,200 kg (2,646 lb) table. The HCMC-1370 is #50 only, with 700 mm (27.6 in) of Y, a 1,500 kg (3,307 lb) table and a 22 / 26 kW motor option.

03 How many tools does the HCMC-1370 hold?

The ATC row reads A: 24 (30 / 32 / 40) pcs, an arm-type magazine with 24 pockets and 30, 32 or 40 as alternatives. The tool shank is BT50, with BBT, CAT and DIN69871 listed in brackets.

04 What does the 35% wider X guideway spacing do?

Hartford states that guideway spacing on the X axis is increased by 35% to eliminate overhang, especially with heavier workpieces. A table that stays supported at the ends of its stroke keeps its geometry under load, which is the point of the claim.
