Overview
The Hartford Aero-436BL-5X has the fullest spindle power row of any Aero 5X table. It lists 34/43 kW as the standard continuous and 30 min rating and four alternatives: 21/27, 40/51, 42/53 and 60/80 kW.
The machine is a gantry type 5-axis machining center with 4,000 mm (157.5 in) of X travel, 3,600 mm (141.7 in) of Y and a table of 4,000 x 3,100 mm (157.5 x 122.0 in). Z travel is 1,100 mm, optionally 1,300 mm.
Why so many motors? Because the two spindles do different jobs. The HSK-A63 at 24,000 rpm is a finishing and aluminium spindle and can live with moderate power. The HSK-A100 at 12,000 rpm is for larger cutters, and in titanium or steel aerospace parts it needs torque. A range from 21 kW to 80 kW lets the spindle be matched to the material, which is the first thing to settle when configuring this machine.
Structure and drives follow the series: four linear guideways on X, two on each side, three on Y, roller type guideways on three axes, twin ballscrews and thermal growth control on Z, and a linear motor for X axes of up to 6 meters. The head is a Cytec 5 axis unit.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The table lists 34/43 kW as standard on the continuous / 30 min basis, with 21/27, 40/51, 42/53 and 60/80 kW as options. It does not state which option pairs with the HSK-A63 or the HSK-A100 spindle.
02
X 4,000 mm (157.5 in), Y 3,600 mm (141.7 in), Z 1,100 mm with 1,300 mm optional. The table is 4,000 x 3,100 mm (157.5 x 122.0 in) at 5,000 kg/m².
03
Hartford describes X/Y multi linear guideways with a wide open span: four on the X axis, two on each side, and three on the Y axis. Roller type guideways are used on three axes, stated as a 20 % increase compared with ball type.
04
A 5 axis head from Cytec, made in Germany, according to Hartford. The maximum torque output of the B and C axes is given as 1,000 Nm under the HSK-A100 heading.
