Overview

The Haas VF-5SS is the high-speed machine on the 50 × 26 × 25 in (1,270 × 660 × 635 mm) frame: a 40-taper vertical machining center with a 12,000 rpm spindle, 1,200 ipm (30.5 m/min) rapids and a 30+1 side-mount tool changer that works in 1.8 s tool-to-tool.

Read the table closely, because this SS is not simply a wider VF-4SS. The VF-4SS, with 20 in (508 mm) of Y, has rapids of 1,400 ipm (35.6 m/min); the VF-5SS is listed at 1,200 ipm (30.5 m/min).
