Overview
The Haas UMC-1250SS-50 has a 50-taper spindle rated 60 hp (44.7 kW) that runs to 12,000 rpm, on SS axes with 1,200 ipm (30.5 m/min) rapids and rotary speeds of 170°/sec on B and 179°/sec on C. Travels are 50 × 30 × 28 in (1,270 × 762 × 711 mm) over a 30 in (762 mm) platter rated for 1,000 lb (454 kg).
Peak torque is 140 ft-lbf (189.8 N·m) at 2,200 rpm. The UMC-1250/50 produces more, 170 ft-lbf (230 N·m) at 1,800 rpm, but stops at 7,500 rpm, so the two CT or BT 50 machines are tuned differently: that one for torque at low speed, this one for power carried up to high speed. The spindle here is inline direct-drive with a coolant jacket and air/oil injection bearing lubrication.
The tooling limits need reading with the speed in mind. The changer accepts tools of 30 lb (13.6 kg) and 16 in (406 mm), 4 in (102 mm) in diameter with the magazine full or 7 in (178 mm) with adjacent pockets empty. Those limits are for big cutters run slowly; the top speed is for small tools held in the same taper.
