Goodway SW-32II — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Goodway SW-32II that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Goodway or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

At Ø32 mm (1.3 in) the Goodway SW-32II covers the bar sizes where a Swiss-type lathe starts to compete with a small fixed-head turning center. Its 315 mm (12.4 in) stroke through the guide bush is the argument for the sliding head: long, slender parts are supported right at the tool.

Power rises sharply compared with the SW-20II of the same generation. The main spindle is rated 5.5 kW (7.4 hp) continuous and 7.5 kW (10.1 hp) for 15 min., and it runs to 7,000 rpm. On this model the sub-spindle is the built-in type as standard equipment, also 7,000 rpm, at 2.2 kW (3.0 hp) continuous and 3.7 kW (5.0 hp) for 15 min., with air blow and a part ejector for unloading.

Tools are larger to match. The 6 O.D. tools use 16 mm (0.6 in) square shanks and the 5 I.D. tools sit in ER20 sleeves. Cross live tooling ranges from 5 to 10 positions at 6,000 rpm, and Goodway lists hobbing, slotting and thread whirling holders. On the sub-spindle side, parts up to 130 mm (5.1 in) long can be ejected from the front, and the 4 rear-end tools run at 5,000 rpm.

Is the Y2 option worth having? It replaces the fixed back tool post with one that carries 8 tools and moves 80 mm (3.1 in), so the back of the part can have off-center holes and flats. For simple back-end turning and drilling on center, the standard arrangement is enough. Short parts can be run bushless at 85 mm (3.3 in) per chucking.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 315 mm (12.4 in) of turning length per chucking with the guide bush
  • 5.5 kW (7.4 hp) continuous, 7.5 kW (10.1 hp) 15 min. main spindle
  • Built-in sub-spindle is standard on this model
  • Optional Y2-axis with 8 tools and 80 mm (3.1 in) of travel
  • Front ejection of parts up to 130 mm (5.1 in) from the sub-spindle

Limitations

  • 7,000 rpm maximum on both spindles
  • Rear-end tools are limited to 5,000 rpm
  • Sub-spindle power of 2.2 kW (3.0 hp) continuous is well below the main spindle's
  • No B-axis; angled work needs the SK-38

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What bar capacity and stroke does the SW-32II have?

Maximum machining diameter is Ø32 mm (1.3 in). Turning length per chucking is 315 mm (12.4 in) with the guide bush or 85 mm (3.3 in) bushless. The sub-spindle chucks up to Ø32 mm (1.3 in).

02 Is the sub-spindle standard on the SW-32II?

The built-in sub-spindle is. Goodway's table heads that section as an option for the SW-20II and standard for the SW-32II. It runs to 7,000 rpm and is rated 2.2 kW (3.0 hp) continuous and 3.7 kW (5.0 hp) for 15 min. The variation list still shows an A model without sub-spindle.

03 How does the SW-32II compare with the SW-42?

The SW-42 takes larger bar and has a 6,000 rpm spindle with a 30 min. rating of 7.5 kW (10.1 hp), but its guide bush stroke is 180 mm (7.1 in). The SW-32II runs to 7,000 rpm, strokes 315 mm (12.4 in) and offers a Y2-axis, which the SW-42 does not.

04 What live tooling is on the SW-32II?

From 5 to 10 cross live tools at up to 6,000 rpm, plus rear-end tools at 5,000 rpm. Goodway states that hobbing, slotting and thread whirling holders can be installed and that the C-axis has a 0.001° resolution.
