How much does the Goodway SW-12 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Goodway SW-12 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Goodway SW-12 is a Swiss-type lathe for micro parts, taking bar up to Ø13 mm (0.5 in) at 10,000 rpm. Everything on it is scaled to small work: 10 mm (0.4 in) square tool shanks, ER11 collets for the I.D. tools, and a main spindle motor of 2.2 kW (3.0 hp) continuous, 3.7 kW (5.0 hp) for 15 min.
At this diameter speed is the constraint. A pin only a few millimetres across needs every one of those 10,000 rpm to reach a sensible cutting speed, and the cross live tools match the spindle at 10,000 rpm so small drills and end mills can run properly too. Goodway also quotes an axial rapid feed rate of 32 m/min., which shortens the moves between tools.
With the guide bush in place the machine turns 140 mm (5.5 in) per chucking. Run bushless, for short parts and less remnant, it turns 30 mm (1.2 in). The front tooling consists of 6 O.D. tools, 4 I.D. tools and 4 cross live tools, and Goodway offers the live tooling in a standard or an expandable configuration that accepts interchangeable holders.
Three variations exist. A is the single-spindle machine. C adds a sub-spindle, and here the sub-spindle is as strong as the main one, with the same 10,000 rpm and the same 2.2 kW and 3.7 kW ratings. D adds a backworking tooling system with 4 rear-end tools at 8,000 rpm. The sub-spindle clamps up to Ø13 mm and ejects parts up to 80 mm (3.1 in) long from the front.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 10,000 rpm on main spindle, sub-spindle and cross live tools
- Sub-spindle with the same 2.2 kW (3.0 hp) continuous rating as the main spindle
- Hybrid guide bush design: bush or bushless operation
- Axial rapid feed rate of 32 m/min., per Goodway
- Expandable live tooling configuration available as an option
Limitations
- Bar capacity is Ø13 mm (0.5 in)
- Bushless turning length is 30 mm (1.2 in) per chucking
- Only 4 rear-end tools, and only in the D variation
- No Y2-axis or B-axis is listed for this model

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Maximum machining diameter is Ø13 mm (0.5 in). The sub-spindle chucks the same Ø13 mm (0.5 in). Turning length per chucking is 140 mm (5.5 in) with the guide bush and 30 mm (1.2 in) bushless.
02
Both the main spindle and the sub-spindle run to 10,000 rpm, and each is rated 2.2 kW (3.0 hp) continuous and 3.7 kW (5.0 hp) for 15 min. Cross live tools also reach 10,000 rpm; rear-end live tools reach 8,000 rpm.
03
6 O.D. turning tools with 10 mm (0.4 in) square shanks, 4 I.D. tools in ER11 sleeves and 4 cross live tools. The D variation adds 4 rear-end tools for back working. Goodway notes the sub-spindle body can also carry a deep hole drill.
04
A is the basic single-spindle machine. C adds the sub-spindle. D adds the sub-spindle and the backworking tooling system. Goodway lists an Air Bag collision function as standard and OCR oscillation cutting as an option.
