Overview

The GTD-34 CNC is a heavy flat-bed CNC lathe with 33.86 in (860 mm) of swing over the bed and bed lengths from 78 to 236 in (2,000 - 6,000 mm) between centers. Where the GTW-30 CNC is built around its bore, this machine is built around length and power: a 30 HP (22 kW) spindle motor drives a four-range geared headstock from 23 to 1,300 rpm.

The four gear ranges are selected automatically and speed is infinitely variable inside each, so the control can hold constant surface speed while the gearbox supplies torque at large diameters. The standard spindle has a 4 in (105 mm) bore on an A2-11 nose. Bores of 6 in and 10 in are optional, and with the A2-15 nose the speed range falls to 7 - 350 rpm.

Swing over the cross slide is 19.69 in (500 mm) and the turning diameter in front of the cross slide with the 8-station turret is 22 in (560 mm). Cross slide travel is 15.75 in (400 mm), though it varies with the turret selected. The turret is an option with choices: a 4-way hydraulic post, an 8-station turret or a live tool turret, taking 32 x 32 mm (1.25 x 1.25 in) OD tools and 50 mm (1.97 in) ID holders. Axis rapids are modest, 5,000 mm/min in X and 7,500 mm/min in Z.

A heavy-duty MT-6 tailstock with a 4.53 in (115 mm) quill and 11.81 in (300 mm) of stroke rides with the saddle and locks down manually; a hydraulic version is optional. A chip conveyor is standard and the control is a Fanuc 0i-TF with a 10.4 in screen. The bed is 20.08 in (510 mm) wide.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What swing and bed lengths does the GTD-34 CNC offer?

Swing over the bed is 33.86 in (860 mm) and swing over the cross slide is 19.69 in (500 mm). Distance between centers is available from 78 to 236 in (2,000 - 6,000 mm). The bed is 20.08 in (510 mm) wide, and cross slide travel is 15.75 in (400 mm), varying with the turret selected.

02 What are the spindle power and speeds?

The spindle motor is 30 HP (22 kW) on bed lengths up to 160 in. Speeds are 23 - 1,300 rpm in 4 automatically selected gear ranges with infinitely variable speed in each range. With the optional A2-15 spindle nose the range is 7 - 350 rpm.

03 Which spindle bores are available?

The standard bore is 4 in (105 mm) on an A2-11 spindle nose. Expand Machinery lists 6 in and 10 in bores as options, and an A2-15 spindle nose as an option. The larger nose brings the lower 7 - 350 rpm speed range.

04 What tool turret does it use?

The turret is listed as optional equipment: a 4-way hydraulic tool post, an 8 station turret or a live tool turret. OD tools are 32 x 32 mm (1.25 x 1.25 in) and the ID tool holder bore is 50 mm (1.97 in). Cross slide travel depends on the turret chosen.

05 How is the tailstock built?

The quill is 4.53 in (115 mm) in diameter with 11.81 in (300 mm) of stroke and 2-speed quill gearing, and it has an MT-6 taper. The body is carried by the saddle and locked down manually. A hydraulic tailstock with hydraulic quill and bed lockdown is optional.
