Overview
The DN Solutions PUMA TW 2100 is a twin-spindle, twin-turret horizontal lathe designed specifically for high-volume production of small parts. The 'TW' designation tells you what this machine is about: two independent spindles sitting side by side, each with its own 8-station turret, machining two parts simultaneously. While the TT series uses twin turrets on a single workpiece, the TW approach runs two identical operations at the same time — effectively doubling your output from a single machine footprint.
Each spindle pushes 15/11 kW (20/15 hp) with 127 Nm (94 ft-lb) of torque at 4,500 RPM. These aren't heavy-duty spindles — they're sized for small, fast parts. Max turning diameter is 240 mm (9 in) with just 128 mm (5 in) of turning length. The short Z-stroke and compact turrets are optimized for quick-hit operations: face, turn, bore, chamfer, done. With only 135 mm of X-travel and 160 mm of Z-travel, every millimeter is productive.
Rapids hit 24 m/min on both axes. Each turret carries 8 stations. The FANUC control manages both spindle paths independently, so you can run the same program on both sides or different programs for two different parts. The machine weighs just 4,650 kg (10,251 lb) on a compact 2,030 mm by 2,098 mm footprint — remarkably small for a twin-spindle machine.
This is a production workhorse, not a job shop machine. If you're running automotive fasteners, hydraulic fittings, small valve components, or any other high-volume small turned part, the TW 2100 produces twice the output of a single-spindle lathe. At roughly half the cost of a twin-turret TT model, it's the most cost-effective way to double your throughput on simple parts.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Twin independent spindles produce two parts simultaneously, effectively doubling output from a single machine
- Extremely compact 2m x 2m footprint delivers twice the throughput per square foot of floor space
- 24 m/min rapids on both axes minimize non-cutting time on short-cycle parts
- 4,500 RPM spindle speed handles aluminum and steel small-diameter parts efficiently
- 4,650 kg lightweight design is easy to install and doesn't require heavy foundation work
- Lower acquisition cost than twin-turret TT models while still doubling production output
Limitations
- 128 mm max turning length severely limits part size — this is strictly a short-parts machine
- 15/11 kW spindle power is modest — not for heavy roughing in tough materials
- 8-station turrets limit tool count compared to 12-station turrets on TT and standard models
- No live tooling or Y-axis on the base TW 2100 — turning and on-center drilling only
- 127 Nm torque is low for anything beyond light-to-medium duty cutting

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The TT (twin-turret) uses two turrets on a single workpiece for simultaneous operations on one part. The TW (twin-spindle) has two separate spindles, each with its own turret, making two parts at the same time. TT is for complex parts; TW is for high-volume simple parts where you want to double output.
02
New TW 2100 machines typically run $150,000-$220,000 depending on options. That's substantially less than the TT series twin-turret machines. For shops that need to double output on simple parts, the TW offers the best cost-per-part reduction in the DN Solutions lathe lineup.
03
Yes, the FANUC multi-path control can run independent programs on each spindle. You can make two different parts simultaneously, or run the same program on both sides. Each spindle-turret combination operates as an independent turning center within the same machine.
04
Yes, the TW 2100 supports dual bar feeder setups for fully automated production on both spindles. Each spindle feeds independently, allowing lights-out operation producing two parts per cycle. This is the most common configuration for high-volume production shops.
05
With 128 mm max turning length and 8-station turrets, the TW 2100 is optimized for short cycles. Typical production parts run 15-45 seconds per part, per spindle. With both spindles running, that's 30-90 parts per hour depending on complexity. The short X and Z travels minimize positioning time.
