Overview

The Fidia UHE 1000 is a 5-axis universal machining centre that splits its rotary axes between a swivelling head and a rotary table. Linear travels are 1,000 mm (39.4 in) in X, 800 mm (31.5 in) in Y and 700 mm (27.6 in) in Z, and the 1,000 x 800 mm (39.4 x 31.5 in) table carries 1,500 kg (3,307 lb).

The B axis is in the head. A torque motor swings the spindle through 0° ÷ 180°, from vertical to horizontal, in 0.001° increments, with a direct angular encoder and a hydraulic brake. The C axis is the table, driven by a worm gear with a direct rotary encoder and a clamping torque of 3,090 Nm. Because the table rotates and never tilts, a heavy part stays flat on its fixture through the whole cycle.

Fidia builds the frame from 3 separate castings: bed, X axis column and spindle headstock. The ballscrews are 50/50/50 mm diameter, directly coupled to the servo motors, on 55/55/55 mm roller guideways. Linear scales on the linear axes and rotary encoders on B and C are part of the basic machine. Maximum feed is 24 m/min.

The standard spindle gives 18,000 rpm on HSK 63A or BT#40 with 26/32 kW - 124/154 Nm (S1/S6); a 24,000 rpm HSK 63A electrospindle is optional. A 40-position chain magazine is standard, tool to tool in 3 sec, for tools up to 120 mm / 300 mm and 7 kg. The UHE 1600 is the heavy-duty sibling, with a 4,000 kg (8,818 lb) table load.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Rotary table that does not tilt, carrying 1,500 kg (3,307 lb)
  • Torque motor swivel head covering 0° ÷ 180° in 0.001° increments
  • Linear scales and direct rotary encoders on B and C in the basic machine
  • 18,000 rpm spindle with 26/32 kW - 124/154 Nm (S1/S6), 24,000 rpm optional
  • 40-position chain magazine with 3 sec tool to tool

Limitations

  • The C axis table turns at only 11.1 rpm on its worm gear; the UHE 1600 table reaches 60 rpm
  • Head travel of 0° ÷ 180° means undercuts depend on rotating the table
  • Maximum tool weight is 7 kg, with tools up to 120 mm / 300 mm
  • Maximum feed is 24 m/min on the linear axes

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How are the 5 axes arranged on the Fidia UHE 1000?

Three linear axes, a B axis in the swivelling milling head and a C axis in the rotary table. The head is driven by a torque motor through 0° ÷ 180° and the table by a worm gear. Both rotary axes have a minimum increment of 0.001° and direct encoders.

02 What can the UHE 1000 table carry?

The table is 1,000 x 800 mm (39.4 x 31.5 in) with a maximum load of 1,500 kg (3,307 lb) and a maximum rotating diameter of 800 mm (31.5 in). Its clamping torque is 3,090 Nm and the distance from floor to table top is 1,000 mm (39.4 in).

03 Which spindles are offered on the UHE 1000?

The standard spindle runs at 18,000 rpm with 26/32 kW - 124/154 Nm (S1/S6) on an HSK 63A or BT#40 taper. The optional electro spindle reaches 24,000 rpm on HSK 63A with 21/27 Kw and 85/116 Nm.

04 How many tools does the UHE 1000 hold?

A 40 positions chain type magazine with a double swing arm is standard, with a tool to tool time of 3 sec. Tools can be up to 120 mm / 300 mm in diameter and length and 7 kg. The option list includes an ATC with 52/60/80 positions.
