DMG Mori DMV 200

The DMG MORI DMV 200 is a long-bed vertical machining center: 2,000 mm (78.7 in) of X travel over a fixed table that handles workpieces up to 3,000 kg (6,613.9 lb). Y is 700 mm (27.6 in) and Z is 550 mm (21.7 in), the same as on the DMV 145, which stops at 1,450 mm (57.1 in) of X.

Roughing is part of the brief here. DMG MORI names a powerMASTER spindle with 430 Nm of torque and 12,000 rpm, and states stability during rough cutting with it. The rest of the spindle range goes up to 20,000 rpm. A buyer therefore chooses between a machine set up to remove steel in volume and one set up to finish at speed, on the same frame.

Three tonnes on a fixed table changes little for the axes, since the table is not one of them. DMG MORI states a constant dynamic characteristic regardless of the workpiece weight, and rapid traverse of 42 m/min in all linear axes. On a 2,000 mm stroke that rapid rate matters, because the non-cutting moves are long.

All axes have direct drive transmission, and all linear axes have linear scales. Selected components are actively cooled. Circular interpolation, checked by Double Ballbar in all planes, is under 6 µm. Over this much travel in X, the cooling and the scales are what keep a long mold plate to size from one end to the other.

The maximum workpiece is 2,160 × 700 × 550 mm (85 × 27.6 × 21.7 in), a little longer than the X travel. The bed is monolithic and all axes run on wide roller guideways.
