Overview

The Cincinnati XFORMe 90XFe6 is the smallest hybrid-drive XFORM press brake for which the maker publishes ram speeds. It has an 8 ft (2,438 mm) overall die surface, a 14 in (356 mm) stroke, 21 in (533 mm) of open height above a 7 in (178 mm) closed height, and an 18 in (457 mm) throat.

Hybrid here means a dual servo-motor pump that turns in both directions and runs only during the working portion of the stroke. Cincinnati's phrase for it is tonnage on demand. While the ram is idle, waiting for the operator to load a part, the drive draws little energy.

At this size the hybrid is not the speed choice. Its ram approaches and returns at 550 ipm (13,970 mm/min) and forms at 70 ipm (1,778 mm/min), while the hydraulic XFORM 90XF6 is listed at 650 ipm (16,510 mm/min) approach and 75 ipm (1,905 mm/min) forming. What the XFORMe adds is the quieter drive, a small fluid volume and Dynamic Thickness Compensation as standard.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Servo pump drive that runs only during the working portion of the stroke
  • Dynamic Thickness Compensation (DTC) is standard on XFORMe models
  • 18 in (457 mm) throat and 21 in (533 mm) open height on an 8 ft (2,438 mm) bed

Limitations

  • Approach speed is 550 ipm (13,970 mm/min); the hydraulic XFORM 90XF6 reaches 650 ipm (16,510 mm/min)
  • Die surface is 8 ft (2,438 mm), the shortest of the XFORMe models with listed speeds

Best For

Short parts in shops that count energy use per shift Work with long idle periods between strokes Material whose thickness varies from sheet to sheet

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the difference between the XFORMe 90XFe6 and the XFORM 90XF6?

The drive. The XFORMe 90XFe6 uses a dual servo-motor bidirectional pump and is listed at 550 ipm (13,970 mm/min) approach, 70 ipm (1,778 mm/min) forming and 550 ipm (13,970 mm/min) return. The all-hydraulic XFORM 90XF6 is listed at 650 ipm (16,510 mm/min), 75 ipm (1,905 mm/min) and 565 ipm (14,351 mm/min). Die surface, stroke, heights and throat are the same.

02 What does DTC do?

Dynamic Thickness Compensation automatically compensates for material thickness variations so that bends come out more accurate. Cincinnati states that it is standard on the XFORMe models.
