Overview

The CHMER RV653L is the smallest fixed-table wire EDM in the RV series: 600 x 500 mm (23.6 x 19.7 in) of X and Y travel, 350 mm (13.8 in) of Z and linear motors on X and Y. It weighs 7,600 kg (16,755 lb), a great deal for that travel, and the reason is the construction.

CHMER describes a high-rigidity column designed by FEA, with three large span linear guideways and a fixed table for heavy loads. Because the workpiece stays still and the column moves, the 2,000 kg (4,409 lb) load rating does not burden the axes. A block of 1,000 x 800 x 345 mm (39.4 x 31.5 x 13.6 in) can sit on the table.

The generator is CHMER's i8 power supply, for which the maker claims faster cutting (increasing 15% on 150mm workpiece) with energy saved by 20%, plus stronger wire-break suppression. An IVC regulated supply conditions unstable mains power before it reaches the cut. Machine status, utility and spare-part life can be followed from a phone or tablet through CHMER's Android app.

Feed rate on X and Y is up to 1,800 mm/min (70.9 ipm). U and V travel 150 x 150 mm (5.9 x 5.9 in), and the taper rating is ±21°/80mm with the wide-angle nozzle. CHMER also mentions its own submerged rotary table for indexing work.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Fixed table on three large span linear guideways, rated for 2,000 kg (4,409 lb)
  • 350 mm (13.8 in) of Z travel, more than the 300 mm of the RV853L
  • X and Y linear motors with 1,800 mm/min (70.9 ipm) maximum feed
  • i8 power supply: CHMER states cutting speed increasing 15% on 150mm workpiece and energy saving of 20%
  • Remote monitoring through CHMER's Android app, LINE and e-mail

Limitations

  • 7,600 kg (16,755 lb) machine weight for a 600 x 500 mm travel
  • Footprint of 3,440 x 3,250 mm (135.4 x 128.0 in)
  • Taper rating is ±21°/80mm, a shorter taper band than the ±21°/150mm of the RV853L
  • Model page lists no standard or optional accessories

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Why is the RV653L so heavy for its travel?

It is a fixed-table design. CHMER describes a rigid column designed by FEA and three large span linear guideways with a fixed table for heavy loads. The result is a 7,600 kg (16,755 lb) machine with 600 x 500 mm of travel that carries a 2,000 kg (4,409 lb) workpiece.

02 What are the travels of the RV653L?

X 600 mm (23.6 in), Y 500 mm (19.7 in) and Z 350 mm (13.8 in). U and V travel is 150 x 150 mm (5.9 x 5.9 in). The largest workpiece is 1,000 x 800 x 345 mm (39.4 x 31.5 x 13.6 in).

03 What does CHMER say about the i8 power supply?

CHMER states faster cutting speed, increasing 15% on 150mm workpiece, and energy saving of 20%, with more powerful wire break suppression. It also describes improved heat dissipation for continuous high-speed machining.

04 Which axes of the RV653L use linear motors?

X and Y are driven by linear motors; U, V and Z by AC servo motors. The maximum X Y feed rate is 1,800 mm/min (70.9 ipm) and wire feed is up to 300 mm/sec (11.8 in/sec).
