Overview
The CHMER RQ6040L is the top of the RQ gantry wire EDM series and the only model in it with 300 mm (11.8 in) of Z travel. X and Y are 600 mm (23.6 in) and 400 mm (15.7 in). The workpiece limit is 1,000 kg (2,205 lb), which is a large step from the 600 kg (1,323 lb) of the RQ5030L below it.
Taper capability steps up as well. U and V travel is 100 x 100 mm (3.9 x 3.9 in) and the taper row reads ±21°/100 with the wide-angled nozzle, where the three smaller RQ models are held to a narrower angle on shorter U and V axes. Mould work with draft angles on thick plates is the obvious use.
CHMER's description of the series applies in full: a rigid gantry structure, UX1 linear motors made in-house, AWT and the i8+ power supply. The linear motors are on X and Y only, with a maximum feed rate of 1,800 mm/min (70.9 ipm).
Installation needs more planning than for its siblings. The machine weighs 4,000 kg (8,818 lb), stands 2,450 mm high on a 2,700 x 2,800 mm base, and CHMER gives the tank capacity as 1,250 kg (2,756 lb). The workpiece size row lists 910 x 600 x 300 mm / 910 x 600 x 150 mm; the table does not say which condition the lower height belongs to.
