The Makino U6 H.E.A.T. Extreme is a mid-to-large wire EDM with 650 x 450 x 420 mm (25.6 x 17.7 x 16.5 in) of X, Y and Z travel, a 4-Sided 910 x 710 mm (35.8 x 28.0 in) table and a 1,500 kg (3,307 lb) workpiece limit. Its distinguishing row is the wire list, which runs from 0.100 mm (0.004 in) to 0.400 mm (0.016 in); the UX6 and UX6i on the same travels list wire only up to 0.300 mm (0.012 in).
A 0.400 mm wire is a roughing choice. It is stiffer and carries more energy than finer wire, which suits thick sections where removal rate matters more than small corner radii. Makino's short introduction says the design was aimed at precision, running cost, speed and maintenance, but it gives no figures for any of them, so cutting speed and finish have to come from a quotation or a test cut.
The workpiece limit is 1000 x 800 x 400 mm Tall (39.4 x 31.5 x 15.8 in), inside a 1,070 mm x 880 mm (42.12 x 34.64 in) tank. A part can overhang the 910 x 710 mm table, and with a table open on all 4 sides it can be clamped from any edge. Part height stops just under the 420 mm (16.5 in) of Z. U and V travel of ±75 mm (±3.0 in) sets how much taper can be cut on a tall section.
Parts beyond this envelope go to the U86, which lists 800 x 600 mm (31.5 x 23.6 in) of X and Y on a 1220 x 910 mm (48 in x 35.8 in) table.
