Overview

The CHMER NV643L is the larger NV-series wire EDM: 600 x 400 x 310 mm (23.6 x 15.7 x 12.2 in) of X, Y and Z travel, an 800 kg (1,764 lb) workpiece limit and a triple linear guideway structure that CHMER applies to this model only.

That guideway layout is the mechanical difference from the NV432L. CHMER says it stabilises the saddle and upper frame as they move, on top of the trapezoidal base and moving XY axis structure that both NV machines share. The taper rating is also wider in reach, ± 21°/140 against ± 21°/110 on the NV432L, with U and V travel of 120 x 120 mm (4.7 x 4.7 in).

Submerged, the machine accepts a workpiece of 900 x 700 x 305 mm (35.4 x 27.6 x 12.0 in). Dielectric capacity is 1,250 L (330 gal), the same as on the smaller model, with a paper filter, a 20 L resin filter and automatic water quality and temperature control.

Everything else is NV equipment: UX1 linear motors on X and Y at 1,800 mm/min (70.9 ipm), the 6th Gen AWT with break point re-threading, an automatic rise-and-fall tank door and the N-Type Controller with its 24" color touch screen. Net weight is 4,100 kg (9,039 lb). CHMER's catalogue and web page give slightly different machine dimensions for this model, so that row is omitted here.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Triple linear guideway design, which CHMER lists for the NV643 model specifically
  • 600 x 400 x 310 mm (23.6 x 15.7 x 12.2 in) travels with an 800 kg (1,764 lb) workpiece limit
  • ± 21°/140 taper rating on 120 x 120 mm (4.7 x 4.7 in) of U and V travel
  • 6th Gen AWT, automatic tank door and automatic water level control for unattended running
  • UX1 linear motors on X and Y, 1,800 mm/min (70.9 ipm)

Limitations

  • Dielectric capacity of 1,250 L (330 gal) is no larger than on the NV432L
  • Machine dimensions are published inconsistently and need confirming
  • Wire feeder load capacity is limited to 8 kg
  • Maximum input power is 8 kVA on a 3 Phase 220V ± 5% supply, so other voltages need a transformer

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How does the NV643L differ from the NV432L?

Travels are 600 x 400 x 310 mm against 400 x 300 x 250 mm on the NV432L, the load limit is 800 kg (1,764 lb) against 500 kg (1,102 lb), and the taper rating is ± 21°/140 against ± 21°/110. CHMER also lists a triple guideway design for the NV643 model. Control, AWT and dielectric capacity are the same.

02 What is the triple guideway design on the NV643L?

CHMER describes a unique triple linear guideway structure that ensures stability during saddle and upper frame movements, for better machining stability and accuracy. It is named for the NV643 model.

03 What size workpiece can the NV643L cut submerged?

Up to 900 x 700 x 305 mm (35.4 x 27.6 x 12.0 in) and 800 kg (1,764 lb). An extended Z-axis travel is available as an option for thicker workpieces or cutting with the 6th axis.

04 What wire system does the NV643L have?

Wire of 0.15-0.3 mm (0.006-0.012 in), 0.25 mm standard, at 300-2,500 gf and up to 300 mm/sec. The wire feeder load capacity is 8 kg or less. Threading is by the 6th Gen AWT system with a wire threading assistant device.
