Price estimate
We do not have a price for the CHMER AW5L that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The CHMER AW5L is a mid-size linear motor wire EDM from the AMStech AW series with 560 x 360 mm (22.0 x 14.2 in) of X and Y travel and 300 mm (11.8 in) of Z. Its column in the specification table is headed AW5L (Drop door).
The machine keeps the fine-wire capability of the AW3L, a range starting at 0.1 mm (0.004 in) with tension from 200 gf, but its standard wire is 0.25 mm (0.010 in). That combination makes it the general-purpose choice: ordinary die work on standard wire most of the time, with thin wire available when a job needs it.
Taper capacity is strong for the size. U and V travel is 120 x 120 mm (4.7 x 4.7 in) and the rating is ± 21° / 140 mm. The table gives a maximum workpiece of 950 x 650 x 260 mm (37.4 x 25.6 x 10.2 in) and 600 kg (1,323 lb). Note the height figure: 260 mm, although Z travel is 300 mm.
Linear motors drive X and Y at up to 1,500 mm/min (59.1 ipm). Water capacity is 320 L (85 gal), which is less than half of the AW3L's 700 L (185 gal) despite the larger table. Weight is listed as 5,200 kg + 320 kg and the footprint is 2,675 x 2,850 mm (105.3 x 112.2 in).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 560 x 360 x 300 mm (22.0 x 14.2 x 11.8 in) travels on X and Y linear motors
- Wire range of 0.1-0.3 mm (0.004-0.012 in) with tension from 200 gf
- ± 21° / 140 mm taper rating with 120 x 120 mm (4.7 x 4.7 in) of U and V travel
- Workpieces up to 950 x 650 x 260 mm and 600 kg (1,323 lb)
Limitations
- Listed workpiece height is 260 mm (10.2 in), below the 300 mm (11.8 in) Z travel
- Water capacity is 320 L (85 gal), small against the 700 L (185 gal) of the AW3L
- No accessory list on the model page, so included equipment must be confirmed
- Feed rate of 1,500 mm/min (59.1 ipm) is below the 1,800 mm/min of the AW8L

Frequently Asked Questions
01
It is larger, with 560 x 360 x 300 mm travels against 370 x 270 x 260 mm on the AW3L, and carries 600 kg (1,323 lb) against 500 kg (1,102 lb). Both run wire from 0.1 mm, but the AW5L's standard wire is 0.25 mm where the AW3L's is 0.2 mm.
02
The taper row reads ± 21° / 140 mm (width, DA + DB = 15 mm). U and V axis travel is 120 x 120 mm (4.7 x 4.7 in). The same rating appears on the AW6L.
03
950 x 650 x 260 mm (37.4 x 25.6 x 10.2 in) and 600 kg (1,323 lb). The wire reaches 560 x 360 mm (22.0 x 14.2 in) of that area, and Z travel is 300 mm (11.8 in).

Outside dimensions are 2,675 x 2,850 x 2,110 mm (105.3 x 112.2 x 83.1 in). Machine weight is listed as 5,200 kg + 320 kg (11,464 lb + 705 lb) and water capacity as 320 L (85 gal).
