Overview
The Chevalier FBL-230 is an 8 in chuck slant-bed CNC lathe with box ways, the entry model of the FBL two-axis range. It turns up to 12.2 in (311 mm) in diameter and 17.4 in (443 mm) in length, with 20.0 in (507 mm) between centers, on a spindle that reaches 4,000 rpm.
The spindle motor is listed as 15 hp / 20 hp (11 / 15 kW), driving an A2-6 ASA nose with a 2.4 in (62 mm) bore. Standard bar capacity is 2.0 in (52 mm), and a 2.5 in (65 mm) capacity is offered as an option. For a machine of 7,700 lb (3,500 kg) that is a strong spindle, and the box ways are there to carry the cuts it can take.
Chevalier builds the bed at 45 degrees with what it calls a torque tube structure, in ribbed Meehanite cast iron, and says the layout gives easy access and quick workpiece changeovers. Travels are 8.3 in (210 mm) in X and 17.7 in (450 mm) in Z, at a feed rate of 787 ipm (20 m/min).
