Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Chevalier FBL-520 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Chevalier FBL-520 is the two-metre model of Chevalier's largest slant-bed lathe series, with 78.7 in (2,000 mm) of cutting length, Z travel and tailstock travel. It keeps the Ø37 in (940 mm) cutting diameter of the series and is the first size in it that is a shaft machine and not a chucker.
A long, heavy part needs support, and the tailstock is specified for it. The quill is 7.9 in (200 mm) in diameter with an MT 6 taper hole, hydraulically driven, on a body that is positioned by the program. Swing over the cover is Ø31.5 in (800 mm). That is the largest diameter that clears the Z-axis covers along the bed, so a roll body up to that size can run the full length.
The spindle is slow and strong by design: an A2-15 nose, 1,000 rpm, and what the maker describes as up to a 60HP spindle motor. X travel is 19.3 in (490 mm), enough to face from the full cutting diameter to the centre in one stroke. The turret holds 12 tools.
At 41,800 lb (19,000 kg) and 299.2 in x 117.2 in x 99.6 in (7,602 x 2,983 x 2,530 mm), the FBL-520 is a foundation job. The series is built on a 45-degree slant bed in ribbed Meehanite casting, and the control is a Fanuc 0i-T. Bore, bar capacity and quill travel are absent from this page because the maker's inch and metric figures for them do not match.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 78.7 in (2,000 mm) of cutting length and tailstock travel
- Ø37 in (940 mm) maximum cutting diameter
- Ø31.5 in (800 mm) swing over the cover along the bed
- MT 6 hydraulic quill, 7.9 in (200 mm) in diameter, on a programmable tailstock
- Net weight of 41,800 lb (19,000 kg)
Limitations
- 1,000 rpm maximum spindle speed
- No spindle bore, bar capacity or quill travel figure that can be relied on
- No steady rest or motor rating in the table
- Floor space of 299.2 in x 117.2 in needs a large bay

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Up to Ø37 in (940 mm) in diameter and 78.7 in (2,000 mm) in length. Swing over bed is Ø39.4 in (1,000 mm) and swing over cover Ø31.5 in (800 mm). X-axis travel is 19.3 in (490 mm) and Z-axis travel 78.7 in (2,000 mm).
02
Length and weight. The FBL-510 cuts 41.3 in (1,050 mm) and weighs 33,000 lb (15,000 kg); the FBL-520 cuts 78.7 in (2,000 mm) and weighs 41,800 lb (19,000 kg). The spindle, turret and tailstock quill are listed the same.
03
A programmable tailstock with 78.7 in (2,000 mm) of travel. The quill is 7.9 in (200 mm) in diameter with an MT 6 taper hole and hydraulic drive. The quill travel row on the maker's page has inch and metric figures that contradict each other and is not reproduced.
04
Floor space is 299.2 in x 117.2 in x 99.6 in (7,602 x 2,983 x 2,530 mm) and net weight 41,800 lb (19,000 kg). The table gives no power supply or foundation data, so those come with the maker's installation drawing.
