Overview

The Campro CPL-3518 is a heavy box-way CNC lathe for long shafts: an 18 in chuck, a maximum turning diameter of Ø700 mm (27.5 in) and a standard turning length of 2,100 mm (82.6 in). It weighs 13,000 kg (28,660 lb), twice the CPL-3512.

The construction changes at this size. Campro describes precision ground box ways with Turcite-B, precisely scraped, in place of the linear guideways of the smaller CPL lathes. The spindle drive is listed as Gear Type, with a 22 / 26 kW (35 HP) motor and a 2,000 rpm maximum. Gearing is what lets a 35 HP motor turn a large-diameter workpiece at low speed with useful torque, although Campro publishes no torque figures.

Three bed lengths appear in the table. Besides the standard 2,100 mm (82.6 in) between centers there are options of 1,450 mm (57 in) and 3,050 mm (120 in). Weight follows: 11,500 kg (25,353 lb) for the short bed and 16,000 kg (35,273 lb) for the long one. The floor plan with chip conveyor runs from 5,663 x 2,542 mm (222 in x 100 in) to 7,313 x 2,542 mm (287 in x 100 in), with the standard at 6,313 x 2,542 mm (248 in x 100 in).

Everything around the cut is larger. The turret has 8 stations with □32 / Ø50 mm tooling (O.D. / I.D.). The tailstock quill is Ø150 mm (Ø5.9 in) with 150 mm (5.9 in) of travel and an MT-#6 taper. The spindle nose is A2-11 with a Ø117.5 mm (Ø4.6 in) hole through the draw tube, and a 20 in chuck is optional. X rapid is 20 m/min and Z rapid 15 m/min on the standard bed. Allow 40 kVA and a 450 L (118 gal) coolant tank.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What bed lengths does the CPL-3518 come in?

The standard distance between centers and maximum turning length are 2,100 mm (82.6 in). Options are 1,450 mm (57 in) and 3,050 mm (120 in). Z axis travel is 2,200 mm (86.6 in) as standard, with 1,550 mm (61 in) and 3,150 mm (124 in) for the optional beds.

02 Is the CPL-3518 a box way lathe?

Yes. Campro states that it uses precision grinding box way transmission with Turcite-B, precisely scraped. The smaller models, CPL-106 to CPL-3512, use linear guideways. The frame is a one-piece 45° box type structure in cast iron.

03 What are the spindle figures of the CPL-3518?

A2-11 spindle nose, 18 in hydraulic chuck with 20 in optional, Ø117.5 mm (Ø4.6 in) hole through the draw tube and a 170 mm (6.6 in) bearing diameter. The motor is 22 / 26 kW (35 HP) with a gear type drive, and maximum speed is 2,000 rpm.

04 How does the CPL-3518 differ from the CPL-3520?

The CPL-3520 has a larger spindle: A2-15 nose, 20 in chuck, a Ø165 mm (Ø6.4 in) draw tube hole and 1,000 rpm. The CPL-3518 has an A2-11 nose, 18 in chuck, Ø117.5 mm (Ø4.6 in) hole and 2,000 rpm. Swing, turning diameter and motor rating are the same on both.

05 How heavy is the CPL-3518?

13,000 kg (28,660 lb) with the standard bed, 11,500 kg (25,353 lb) with the short bed option and 16,000 kg (35,273 lb) with the long bed option. Power capacity is 40 kVA and the coolant tank holds 450 L (118 gal).
