Overview

The pallet changer is the reason to pick the Anger Machining SP2-P. It has two large machining bridges, each 3,400 mm long with an interference diameter of Ø1,200 mm, and swaps them in 10 s so that one is loaded while the two spindles cut on the other.

On a part with a long cycle the spindles of a single-bridge machine stand still for every exchange; here the operator, or a robot, has the whole cycle to unload and clamp. Anger stresses manual loading at an ergonomic working height, and zero-point clamping systems sit under each clamping station.

The cutting side is the SP series design. Two spindles on independent moving columns cover 3,200 mm (126.0 in) of X, 915 mm (36.0 in) of Y and 630 mm (24.8 in) of Z, never closer together than 860 mm. They machine two identical parts in step or one large part together. Each A-axis is rated for 3,000 kg.

HSK63-A spindles are listed with 0-18,000 rpm, 30/50 kW and 50/80 Nm (S1/S6-30%), and with a 0-20,000 rpm alternative in brackets. Magazines hold 29 tools per spindle as standard and up to 61 tools per spindle at most. A B-axis for 5-sided machining is optional. The machine weighs 23,000 kg (50,705 lb), the same figure the SP2-D table gives, so check whether that includes the second bridge.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Pallet changer with a 10 s changeover between two machining bridges
  • Loading and unloading while both spindles are cutting
  • Manual loading at an ergonomic working height
  • Tool magazines with up to 61 tools per spindle
  • Parts up to 3,400/Ø1,200 mm on each bridge
  • Optional B-axis for 5-sided machining in a single setup

Limitations

  • Standard spindle torque of 50/80 Nm is aimed at aluminium
  • Tools longer than 350 mm do not fit the magazines
  • Needs 110 kW of connected power and a footprint of 5,000/5,300/3,250 mm (L/W/H)
  • Only a Siemens control is listed

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What does the pallet changer on the SP2-P do?

It exchanges the two machining bridges. The table gives a changeover time of 10 s for the automatic pallet changer. Thanks to it, Anger says, parts can be loaded in parallel during main time, meaning while the spindles are working on the other bridge.

02 SP2-P or SP2-D: which one fits?

Both share travels, spindles and part size. The SP2-D has a single machining bridge and is loaded manually or by robot between cycles. The SP2-P has two bridges on a dual A-axis configuration with a 10 s pallet change, which keeps the spindles cutting during loading. Choose by how long the loading takes compared with the machining cycle.

03 How many tools per spindle does the SP2-P hold?

The table lists 2x29 as standard, with 2x41 and 2x61 as the bracketed alternatives, and Anger's text confirms a capacity of up to 61 tools per spindle. The disc-type magazines are described as maintenance-free due to their simplified design. Maximum tool length is 350 mm.

04 What accuracy does Anger state?

Repeatability is 0.002 mm as per VDI 3441 / VDI 2617. The table has no positioning accuracy row for this model. Axis data are 90/60/60 m/min maximum speed and 5/5/10 m/s² acceleration on X/Y/Z.

05 Can the SP2-P machine five sides?

With the optional B-axis, yes: Anger calls it a swivel axis that enables 5-sided machining in a single setup. The table shows the number of axes as 4 (5). Six-sided machining through the bridge is also described.
