Overview

Three metres of X travel and an additional W-axis define the Anger Machining Meteor 3000-W. It is a single-spindle horizontal machining center with 3,000 mm (118.1 in) in X, 1,600 mm (63.0 in) in Y and 630 mm (24.8 in) in Z, plus a W-axis of another 630 mm (24.8 in).

Anger gives two reasons for the W-axis: deep-hole drilling and large workpieces. The practical reading is that reach into a deep part comes from the machine and not from long tool extensions alone, though the table still allows tools up to 600 mm long.

The workpiece sits on a bridge carried by the A-axis, rated for 3,500 kg including the bridge, and a 180° rotation takes 1.4 s. The table states 4 axes with 5 and 6 as bracketed options. Repeatability is 0.002 mm as per VDI 3441 / VDI 2617.

The spindle is an HSK63 unit running from 0 to 18,000 rpm with 30/50 kW and 50/80 Nm (S1/S6-30%). That is a spindle for aluminium at speed. Anger mentions HSK100-A or HSK80-A spindles as options, but the table carries no figures for them. One disc magazine holds 29 tools, each up to 8 kg, and Anger quotes chip-to-chip times as low as 5 seconds.

The line-oriented setup shows in the details: Fanuc control, minimum quantity lubrication in the lubrication row, 110 kVA at 3x400 V. If two spindles working at once would pay off, the Meteor TS3000V-W is the same size with a second spindle and weighs 30,500 kg against 29,000 kg here.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • X travel of 3,000 mm with 1,600 mm of Y for long structural parts
  • W-axis of 630 mm in addition to 630 mm of Z, intended for deep drilling
  • A-axis load of 3,500 kg including the bridge
  • Spindle speed of 0-18,000 rpm with 30/50 kW (S1/S6-30%)
  • Repeatability of 0.002 mm as per VDI 3441 / VDI 2617

Limitations

  • Spindle torque is 50/80 Nm, so heavy cuts depend on the optional HSK100-A or HSK80-A spindles
  • One spindle and a 29-tool magazine; twin-spindle output needs the Meteor TS3000V-W
  • Footprint of 9,000/6,200/4,000 mm (L/W/H) and 29,000 kg of machine weight
  • Listed with a Fanuc control only

Best For

Long aluminium structural parts within 3,000 mm of X travel Electric-vehicle components machined with minimum quantity lubrication Deep-hole drilling using the W-axis Automated production lines with a single part per cycle

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the W-axis on the Meteor 3000-W for?

Anger lists the W-axis as a key advantage for deep drilling and large workpiece machining. It has 630 mm of travel, the same as the Z-axis, and the acceleration row of the table carries a fourth value for it. Tool length is limited to 600 mm.

02 How heavy a workpiece can it take?

The maximum load on the A-axis is 3,500 kg, and the table notes that this includes the bridge, so the fixture bridge counts against the figure. A 180° rotation of the A-axis takes 1.4 s.

03 Which spindle is fitted?

An HSK63 spindle with a speed range of 0-18,000 rpm, 30/50 kW and 50/80 Nm as S1/S6-30% ratings. Anger's text calls it an HSK63-A spindle and names HSK100-A or HSK80-A spindles as further options, without giving their ratings in the table.

04 How is the Meteor 3000-W different from the Meteor TS3000V-W?

The number of spindles. This model has 1 spindle and a 29-tool magazine. The Meteor TS3000V-W has 2 independently driven spindles with a spindle distance of 620-2,400 mm in X and two magazines, listed as 2x29. Travels, A-axis load and footprint are the same in both columns.

05 What control and utilities does it use?

The NC control row lists Fanuc. Lubrication is given as MQL, minimum quantity lubrication, which Anger also mentions as an option for automated lines. The electrical connection is 3x400 V with a total connected power of 110 kVA, and the machine weighs 29,000 kg (63,933 lb).
