Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Weldon Phoenix that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Weldon Phoenix is a CNC internal (ID) grinder with a 16 in (406 mm) maximum work swing, a nominal 200 lb (91 kg) workpiece capacity and an ID spindle housing bore of 120 mm (4.7 in). Its two axes are split between two tables: the workhead rides the Z axis with 15.25 in (387 mm) of travel, and the grinding spindle rides the X axis with 23 in (584 mm).
That arrangement means the part moves toward the wheel for bore depth while the spindle moves across for diameter. With 23 in (584 mm) of cross travel, more than the Z stroke, the spindle can be parked well clear of the chuck for loading and still reach across a 16 in (406 mm) swing.
The 120 mm (4.7 in) housing bore tells you what size of spindle cartridge the machine accepts. The table gives no ID spindle speed or power, so the spindle itself has to be matched with Weldon to the bore diameters and depths you grind. Z travel of 15.25 in (387 mm) is the outer limit on how deep the wheel can reach, before quill length and stiffness are considered.
Workholding goes on a 6 in A2 (ASME) spindle nose with a #5 Morse center taper and a 1.062 in (27 mm) through hole. A 5.0 hp (3.7 kW) FANUC AC digital servo turns the workhead at 0-900 rpm, infinitely variable. The table drive motors are 1.9 hp (1.4 kW) FANUC AC digital servos, the least input increment is 0.000010 in, and the FANUC 0i-TF control is listed with 160 m of program storage and 63 programs.
The Phoenix occupies 95 x 90 x 85 in (2,413 x 2,286 x 2,159 mm) (W x D x H) and weighs 14,500 lb (6,577 kg) on a welded steel Shear Damper base. That is a little under the Gold at 15,500 lb (7,031 kg). Power is 460 VAC, 3-phase, 60 Hz, with 5 SCFM of air at 80 psi.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 16 in (406 mm) swing with a nominal 200 lb (91 kg) workpiece capacity for chucked parts
- Spindle table with 23 in (584 mm) of X travel, separate from the workhead table's 15.25 in (387 mm) of Z travel
- 120 mm (4.7 in) ID spindle housing bore
- 5.0 hp (3.7 kW) FANUC AC digital servo workhead, infinitely variable from 0 to 900 rpm, with a 6 in A2 (ASME) nose
- Least input increment of 0.000010 in on a FANUC 0i-TF control
- 14,500 lb (6,577 kg) welded steel Shear Damper base in a 95 x 90 in (2,413 x 2,286 mm) footprint
Limitations
- No ID spindle speed or power is listed, so grinding spindle selection has to be settled with Weldon
- Program storage is listed at 160 m and 63 programs, small for a shop with many part numbers
- Workpiece capacity of 200 lb (91 kg) is given only as a nominal figure, so heavy parts and fixtures need confirming with Weldon
- Bore depth is bounded by 15.25 in (387 mm) of Z travel
- Needs a 460 VAC, 3-phase supply

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Maximum work swing is 16 in (406 mm) and the workpiece weight is listed as 200 lb (91 kg), nominal. The workhead has a 6 in A2 (ASME) spindle nose, a #5 Morse center taper and a 1.062 in (27 mm) through hole, and runs from 0 to 900 rpm.
02
Each axis has its own table. The Z axis carries the workhead and travels 15.25 in (387 mm). The X axis carries the grinding spindle and travels 23 in (584 mm). Table drive motors are 1.9 hp (1.4 kW) FANUC AC digital servos, and the least input increment is 0.000010 in.
03
The table lists an ID spindle housing bore of 120 mm (4.7 in) and nothing more about the spindle: no speed range and no power. Treat the housing bore as the mounting size, and agree the spindle speed and quill with Weldon for the bore sizes you intend to grind.
04
The FANUC 0i-TF on the Phoenix is listed with 160 m of program storage and 63 programs. If you run a large family of parts, check whether that is enough or whether programs will need to be loaded from outside the control.
05
Power is 460 VAC, 3-phase, 60 Hz and air is 5 SCFM at 80 psi. The machine measures 95 x 90 x 85 in (2,413 x 2,286 x 2,159 mm) (W x D x H) and weighs 14,500 lb (6,577 kg).
