WardJet X-2540 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the WardJet X-2540 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from WardJet or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The WARDJet X-2540 is the largest X-Series waterjet, with a cutting area of 98.2" x 157.2" (2.5 m x 4 m). It is the size at which two sheets can sit side by side: WARDJet says the model can handle multiple material configurations, and a table 98.2" wide is what makes that possible.

The footprint is 11' 9" x 18' 1" (3.61 m x 5.5 m). Z-axis travel is 12" (0.30 m), and the gantry carries up to 2 Z-carriages. With two heads and two sheets, each head can work its own material, which is the usual way a table this wide earns its floor space.

All axes are ballscrew driven. Repeatability is ±0.001" per axis (± 0.03 mm per axis), the imperial accuracy figure is ±0.003" per 3ft. per axis, and the speed range tops out at 900 in/min. Anyone weighing this machine against the M-2540 should note that the two have the same 98.2" x 157.2" (2.5 m x 4 m) cutting area. The M-2540 is rack driven, lists 3 Z-carriages and a top speed of 2000 in/min; the X-2540 keeps the ballscrew.

Abrasive is supplied from a SmartFeed 400/ Axxiom 1000lb Hopper (450kg). The gantry draws 230V 30 amps, Three Phase and uses 80 psi, 2 cfm (5.52 bar, 0.06 cmm) of air. Like the other machines in the series it runs MOVE and WARDCAM, and WARDJet builds it at its plant in Ohio, USA.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 98.2" x 157.2" (2.5 m x 4 m) cutting area, the largest in the X-Series
  • Ballscrew in all axes at this size, with ±0.001" per axis (± 0.03 mm per axis) repeatability
  • Two Z-carriages can work two sheets loaded side by side
  • 12" (0.30 m) of Z-axis travel

Limitations

  • Two Z-carriages maximum, against 3 on the M-2540 with the same cutting area
  • 900 in/min top speed, where the M-2540 lists 2000 in/min
  • Occupies 11' 9" x 18' 1" (3.61 m x 5.5 m) for the table alone
  • Pump supply and pump rating are not part of the table

Best For

Two-sheet loading on a ballscrew-driven table Wide plate, stone slab and glass up to 98.2" across Shops that put positioning over traverse speed on a large table

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the cutting area of the X-2540?

98.2" x 157.2" (2.5 m x 4 m) with one carriage, and 12" (0.30 m) of Z-axis travel. The footprint is listed as 11' 9" x 18' 1" (3.61 m x 5.5 m).

02 Should I choose the X-2540 or the M-2540?

The cutting area is the same 98.2" x 157.2" (2.5 m x 4 m). The X-2540 is ballscrew driven with up to 2 Z-carriages and a 900 in/min top speed. The M-2540 uses a precision ground helical rack and pinion, lists 3 Z-carriages and a top speed of 2000 in/min.

03 What accuracy does the X-2540 list?

Linear positional accuracy is ±0.003" per 3ft. per axis and repeatability is ±0.001" per axis (± 0.03 mm per axis). The drive mechanism is ballscrew in all axes.

04 What does the X-2540 need for power and air?

The gantry needs 230V 30 amps, Three Phase and 80 psi, 2 cfm (5.52 bar, 0.06 cmm) of compressed air. The power row covers the gantry only, so the pump has to be added to the electrical plan.
