Overview
The Flow Mach 200 is Flow International's mid-range waterjet cutting system, positioned as the practical choice for shops that need reliable, high-quality waterjet cutting without the premium cost of the Mach 500's Dynamic XD technology. It occupies the sweet spot in Flow's lineup: more capable and accurate than the entry-level Mach 100, but significantly more affordable than the flagship Mach 500.
The Mach 200 is available in four table configurations: 1313 (4.3 x 4.3 ft), 3020 (10 x 6.5 ft), 4020 (13.1 x 6.5 ft), and 7320 (24 x 6.5 ft). The most popular configuration is the 3020. Z-axis travel is 178-203 mm (7-8 in) depending on cutting head selection. Rapid traverse reaches up to 10,160 mm/min (400 ipm). Linear straightness accuracy is ±0.083 mm/m (±0.003 in/3 ft) with repeatability of 0.038 mm (0.0015 in).
Cutting head options include pure waterjet for soft materials, standard abrasive waterjet for general cutting, and the Pivot+ Waterjet head for 3D cutting with bevel capability and taper compensation. The Pivot+ isn't a full 5-axis head like the Mach 500's Dynamic XD, but it provides enough angular motion for bevel cuts, taper compensation, and simple 3D contours. For most shops doing primarily 2D cutting with occasional bevel work, the Pivot+ covers the need without the Mach 500's cost.
The Mach 200 uses Flow's HyPlex Prime direct-drive pump at 60,000 PSI (4,150 bar), available in 30 HP and 50 HP configurations. The HyPlex Prime is Flow's most advanced direct-drive pump, converting over 90% of electrical power to hydraulic power. It's quieter and more efficient than older intensifier-style pumps.
The Mach 200 also comes in a Mach 200c variant with a smaller, integrated cabinet design for shops with limited floor space. New Mach 200 systems typically price in the $100,000-$300,000 range depending on table size, pump selection, and cutting head. A base 3020 with 30 HP pump and standard abrasive head starts around $150,000. Used units from 2018-2022 appear in the $60,000-$180,000 range. Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Best value in Flow's lineup: delivers the core waterjet cutting capability at roughly half the cost of the Mach 500
- HyPlex Prime direct-drive pump is Flow's most efficient and quietest pump, with lower operating costs than older intensifier designs
- Pivot+ cutting head provides bevel cutting and taper compensation capability for shops that need occasional 3D cuts without the Mach 500's Dynamic XD cost
- Four table sizes from 4.3 x 4.3 ft to 24 x 6.5 ft provide flexibility from compact prototyping to large-format production
- Mach 200c compact variant fits in smaller shops with an integrated cabinet design that reduces floor space requirements
- FlowMaster software is shared across the entire Flow lineup, so shops can graduate to a Mach 500 later without reprogramming
Limitations
- No 94,000 PSI HyperJet pump option limits maximum cutting speed on thick, hard materials compared to the Mach 500
- 400 ipm rapid traverse is nearly half the Mach 500's 700 ipm, adding non-cutting time on large parts with long traverse moves
- Pivot+ head provides taper compensation but doesn't match the Dynamic XD's compound angle cutting capability for true 5-axis work
- ±0.003 in/3 ft accuracy specification is looser than the Mach 500's ±0.0015 in/3 ft, which matters for precision parts
- 7-8 inch Z-axis travel is less than the Mach 500's 12.2 inches, limiting maximum material thickness for some applications

Frequently Asked Questions
01
New Mach 200 systems range from approximately $100,000 for a compact 1313 with basic configuration to $300,000 for a large-format 4020 or 7320 with 50 HP pump and Pivot+ head. The most popular 3020 configuration with 30 HP pump and standard abrasive head starts around $150,000. Used units from 2018-2022 sell in the $60,000-$180,000 range. The Mach 200 represents Flow's best value for shops that don't need the Mach 500's advanced features.
02
If you're doing primarily 2D waterjet cutting and don't need compound angle cutting or 94,000 PSI pressure, the Mach 200 is the better value. The Mach 500 is worth the premium if you need the Dynamic XD head for taper-free cutting at maximum speed, 5-axis compound angle capability, or the ultra-high-pressure HyperJet pump for thick material cutting. Many successful waterjet shops run Mach 200 systems and produce excellent work. The Mach 500 is for when speed and precision are the primary competitive advantage.
03
The Pivot+ is Flow's compact 5-axis cutting head designed for the Mach 200. It provides angular motion for bevel cuts, taper compensation, and simple 3D contours. It's more affordable and mechanically simpler than the Mach 500's Dynamic XD head. For shops that need occasional beveled edges, countersinks, or taper-compensated cuts, the Pivot+ adds significant capability without the Mach 500's price premium. It's a practical middle ground between a fixed abrasive head and a full 5-axis system.
04
Both run at 60,000 PSI, but the 50 HP pump delivers more water flow, which allows faster cutting speeds (particularly on thick materials) and the ability to run larger orifice sizes. The 30 HP pump is adequate for cutting most materials under 2 inches thick and keeps electricity costs lower. Shops cutting thick stainless, titanium, or stone regularly will benefit from the 50 HP option. The 30 HP is ideal for general job shop work with a mix of thin to moderate thickness materials.
05
Flow and OMAX (now owned by Hypertherm) are the two dominant waterjet manufacturers. Flow's advantage is the HyPlex Prime direct-drive pump technology and the breadth of their product line. OMAX's advantage is their Intelli-MAX software, which simplifies programming with a controller-based approach rather than CAM-based. Both produce excellent waterjets. The choice often comes down to local dealer support, software preference, and specific model pricing. The Mach 200 competes most directly with OMAX's MAXIEM series.
