Overview
The Trumpf TruBend Cell 5000 Lean Edition is an automated bending cell that pairs a TruBend 5085 press brake with the BendMaster robot for automatic sheet loading, bending, and part stacking. The Lean Edition is designed as a cost-optimized entry point into automated bending, delivering reduced labor, consistent quality, and multi-shift operation without the full complexity of the standard TruBend Cell 5000.
The press brake delivers 850 kN (85 tons) of pressing force across a 2,210 mm (87 in) bending length, with 1,750 mm between columns. Usable open height is 615 mm with a 420 mm throat depth. Rapid downward movement reaches 200 mm/s, with maximum Y-axis press speed of 25 mm/s.
The BendMaster robot handles parts up to 2,000 x 1,000 mm and 40 kg, with a maximum carrying capacity of 60 kg including gripper weight. Minimum sheet thickness is 0.7 mm. The robot operates on a 6-meter linear track providing access to the sheet stack, press brake, and finished parts station. Maximum sheet stack height is 700 mm, and finished parts stack up to 1,000 mm. The robot uses vacuum gripping with automatic gripper changing.
The basic machine weighs 7,800 kg (17,196 lb) with a footprint of 3,020 x 1,800 x 2,835 mm. The BendMaster adds 595 kg, and each 2,000 mm floor track element adds 310 kg.
Programming uses TecZone Bend software with offline simulation and automatic bend sequence optimization. Robot motion paths are automatically generated from the bend program with sheet sensor positioning for accurate part placement.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- BendMaster robot automates sheet loading, bending, and stacking for multi-shift or lights-out operation
- Cost-optimized Lean Edition delivers core automated bending benefits at lower investment than the full Cell 5000
- Vacuum gripping with automatic gripper changing handles diverse part geometries without manual setup
- Sheet sensor positioning ensures accurate part placement at the backgauge
- TecZone Bend automatically generates robot motion paths from the bend program
- 850 kN and 2,210 mm bending length cover the majority of small-to-medium part bending work
Limitations
- 40 kg maximum part weight limits the cell to lighter sheet metal components
- 850 kN (85 tons) is modest for thicker material or longer bends at full length
- Floor track and robot infrastructure require significant floor space beyond the press brake footprint
- 0.7 mm minimum sheet thickness limits very thin material handling
Best For
Frequently Asked Questions
01
The Lean Edition uses an 850 kN (85-ton) press brake as a cost-optimized configuration. The standard Cell 5000 offers higher tonnage options and longer bending lengths for a wider range of part sizes.
02
Vacuum gripping with automatic gripper changing. The robot switches grippers automatically and sheet sensors verify positioning at the backgauge before each bend.
03
Yes. With a full sheet stack (700 mm) the cell processes blanks until depleted or the finished stack (1,000 mm) is full -- typically several hours of unattended operation.
04
Parts exceeding 2,000 x 1,000 mm or 40 kg, or requiring more than 850 kN of bending force. The standard Cell 5000 or Cell 7000 handles larger work.
