Takamaz XTS-6

The Takamaz XTS-6 is a narrow-bodied chucker, only 1,105 mm wide in a 1,105 × 1,380 mm (W × L) footprint. It has a 6 in collet, an 8-station turret, 120 mm (4.7 in) of X and 230 mm (9.1 in) of Z, and a spindle rated 7.5 / 5.5 kW that runs to 5,000 rpm on a Ø75 mm bearing.

Width is the figure that matters on a machine like this. In a line of identical lathes each fed by a loader, the number of machines that fit along a wall is set by their width, and the XTS-6 is 1,105 mm wide where the XT-6 is 1,360 mm. Over a row of machines that difference becomes extra spindles in the same floor area. The loader is optional, listed as SigmaiC60, FC60 or FGH, and the loader workpiece limits are 60 mm in diameter, 50 mm long and 1.0 kg.

The envelope is the shortest of its siblings. With 230 mm of Z the XTS-6 is for short chucked parts such as caps, nuts, bushings and small flanges, not for anything that needs a tailstock or a long reach. Its 5,000 rpm top speed is higher than the 4,500 rpm standard of the XT-6, which suits the small diameters that fit a 6 in collet and 60 mm loader limit. Rapids are 18 m/min on X and 24 m/min on Z.

The trade-offs are tools and options. The 8-station turret is fixed in the table, with no larger turret listed, and no live tools or spindle options appear. For a larger turret or more spindle choice the XT-6 is the next machine up; for live tooling, the XT-6M.
