Overview

The Takamaz XT-8 is the turning-only chucker of the XT-8 family: an 8 in collet (10 in optional), an 8-station turret as standard with a 12-station turret as an option, 190 mm (7.5 in) of X and 400 mm (15.7 in) of Z. The standard spindle is rated 11 / 7.5 kW on a Ø100 mm bearing and runs to 3,500 rpm.

For a shop that only turns, bores and drills on centre, the XT-8 avoids paying for live tooling it will not use, and it is the narrowest of the family at 1,600 × 1,535 mm (W × L). Neither the XT-8M nor the XT-8MY lists its 10 in chuck option, which opens the machine to larger chucked blanks than the 8 in collet takes.

The spindle comes in three specifications. The standard 11 / 7.5 kW with a Ø100 mm bearing runs to 3,500 rpm. One option raises the rating to 15 / 11 kW and the speed to 5,000 rpm on the same Ø100 mm bearing, for smaller diameters and faster finishing. The other fits a Ø120 mm bearing with 15 / 11 kW at 3,000 rpm, for heavier cuts on larger parts. Loader workpieces are listed up to 150 mm in diameter, 50 mm long and 1.5 kg.

The 8-station turret is the main limit. A part needing more than eight tools must either be split across two operations or the 12-station turret ordered. The XT-8M on the same platform comes with the 12-station turret and 12 live tools rated to drill Ø20 mm and tap M16, with 420 mm (16.5 in) of Z, and is the next step when parts need cross-holes. Rapids on the XT-8 are 18 m/min on X and 24 m/min on Z.
