How much does the STM EcoCut cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the STM EcoCut that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The STM EcoCut is the entry-level machine of the STM range, a stepper-driven 2D waterjet built in three work surfaces: 1 m x 2 m, 3 m x 2 m and 4 m x 2 m. Traversing speed is 5 m/min, Z-axis clearance is 150 mm, and the rectangular grid that carries the work is rated for a maximum workpiece weight of 600 kg/m².
STM is plain about what the model is not. Only 2D cutting is possible, with no taper-compensating or 3D head. The details list carries the lines "Low accuracy requirement" and "No washout systems". Positioning accuracy is ± 0.15 mm and repeatability ± 0.10 mm per meter at 20° C, the loosest figures in the STM line, and the water level is adjusted by hand.
What that buys is a simple machine. Stepper motors replace the servo drives of the larger models, the control is STM's own CNC control Eco operated from a tablet, and the frame is welded from aluminum and steel. A CNC Z-axis, the STM Edge Tracker position laser, a stop angle and precision wedge shoes are part of the listed equipment, and programs come from the same STM SmartCut software as on the bigger machines. Overall height stays under 2 m, the working area is open on three sides, and cutting above and below water is possible.
A short options list follows: safety equipment with a process speed of max. 10 m/min, a settling tank with pressure bag filter for the overflow, an abrasive storage container for 450 kg and the control panel V2.
One detail on sizes needs checking with STM. The page text names three work surfaces, but its details list and the size graphic show only the first two, 1 m x 2 m and 3 m x 2 m.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Simple build: stepper motors, STM's CNC control Eco and a control tablet
- Three work surfaces named on the page, 1 m x 2 m, 3 m x 2 m and 4 m x 2 m
- Overall height of less than 2 m with the working area accessible from three sides
- CNC Z-axis and the STM Edge Tracker position laser are in the listed equipment
- Runs the same STM SmartCut software as the larger STM machines
Limitations
- Only 2D cutting is possible; no taper-compensating or 3D head is offered
- Positioning accuracy of ± 0.15 mm per meter is the loosest in the STM line
- Traversing speed is 5 m/min, a third of the 15 m/min of the STM MasterCut
- Workpiece support is limited to 600 kg/m², against 1,000 kg/m² on the STM MasterCut
- No washout systems, and the water level is adjusted manually

Frequently Asked Questions
01
It cuts in 2D only. STM's page says so directly, and the model has neither the TAC head nor the 3D head. It has no washout systems for abrasive removal, the water level is controlled manually, and it is driven by stepper motors under the CNC control Eco where the STM MasterCut uses brushless servo motors and a NUM control.
02
The page text names three work surfaces: 1 m x 2 m, 3 m x 2 m and 4 m x 2 m, and says the model is only available in 3 sizes. The details list on the same page and the size graphic show just 1 m x 2 m and 3 m x 2 m, so confirm with STM whether the 4 m x 2 m table is current. Overall height is less than 2 m in every case.
03
Positioning accuracy is ± 0.15 mm and repeatability is ± 0.10 mm, both per meter at 20° C. STM itself labels the model for a low accuracy requirement. For comparison, the product page of the STM MasterCut gives ± 0.10 mm and ± 0.08 mm on the same basis.
04
Traversing speed is listed as 5 m/min. The options list adds safety equipment with a process speed of max. 10 m/min, which reads as the higher speed being tied to that safety package. Ask STM what the safety equipment consists of and whether the base machine is limited to 5 m/min without it.
05
The workpiece support is a rectangular grid for a maximum workpiece weight of 600 kg/m². With a Z-axis clearance of 150 mm, that is the practical ceiling on plate thickness and weight. The frame itself is welded aluminum and steel, and the machine cuts above or below water.
