STM ByJet — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the STM ByJet that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from STM Waterjet or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The STM ByJet is the large-format system in STM's waterjet range: a modular machine that can be built up to 30 m long and 6 m wide, with heavy-duty supports for workpieces up to 3,000 kg/m². Process speed is 40 m/min. Positioning accuracy is ± 0.02 mm per meter at 20°, and repeatability is ± 0.01 mm on the same basis.

Its construction is what sets it apart from the other STM machines. The X and Y guideways are carried by a free-standing frame that is anchored in the ground, and the catcher is built from separate stainless steel tub elements. Tub elements can be added as required. Because frame and tank are independent, the format can grow well past what a one-piece basin allows, but anchoring points in the floor have to be planned before the machine arrives.

All three STM cutting heads are listed for it: the 2D head, the angular error compensation head with a working range of +/- 12 degrees, and the 3D head, whose A-axis works up to +/- 68 degrees and whose C-axis covers +/- 720 degrees. Pivot axes move at 360 degrees/sec. Multiple cutting heads and multiple Z-axes are also listed. On a bed of this length they matter, since a single head needs a long time to work its way down a full table.

Motion comes from brushless servo motors under a NUM CNC control, running on Bosch Rexroth guideways with high-precision ball carriages and stainless steel balls. Programs are prepared in STM SmartCut. The page lists abrasive storage as a 450 kg container or a 1,650 kg tank, and STM's BasicClean or OneClean rinsing systems for clearing abrasive from the tank. The pump is a separate choice: STM states that the high-pressure pumps it fits provide up to 6000 bar with a connected load of 11-75 kW and 1 – 10 litres per minute, depending on the requirements.

STM publishes no standard table sizes for the ByJet. Dimensions are settled per project.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Can be built up to 30 m long and 6 m wide, the largest format in the STM range
  • Heavy-duty supports take workpieces up to 3,000 kg/m²
  • Positioning accuracy of ± 0.02 mm per meter and repeatability of ± 0.01 mm at a process speed of 40 m/min
  • Takes the 2D head, the angular error compensation head and the 3D head with an A-axis range up to +/- 68 degrees
  • Tub elements are modular, so the tank can be extended as required
  • Multiple cutting heads and multiple Z-axes are listed for the system

Limitations

  • The free-standing frame is anchored in the ground, so the floor has to be prepared for it
  • No standard work surface sizes are published; every machine is dimensioned on request
  • The page prints the Z-axis clearances without a unit, so the usable height has to be confirmed with STM
  • Pump pressure and power are not fixed for the model; the pump is selected from a range that runs from 11 to 75 kW
06

Best For

Large plate and long profiles on tables up to 30 m long Heavy workpieces up to 3,000 kg/m² on the supports Bevel and 5-axis cuts with the 3D head, up to +/- 68 degrees Production lines with multiple cutting heads or multiple Z-axes Shops that expect to extend the tank with further tub elements

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How large can an STM ByJet be built?

Up to 30 m long and 6 m wide. STM describes it as the only system in its range that reaches that format. There is no list of standard work surfaces for this model: the tub elements are modular and the size is agreed for each project, so the first step is to send STM the largest sheet or part you need to cut.

02 Why is the ByJet frame anchored in the ground?

The X and Y guideways sit on a free-standing frame that is separate from the stainless steel tub elements. STM anchors that frame in the ground to achieve the greatest possible stability. For the buyer it means anchoring points must be planned in the floor, and that the tank can be changed or extended without touching the guideways.

03 How accurate is the STM ByJet?

STM lists positioning accuracy of ± 0.02 mm per meter at 20° and repeatability of ± 0.01 mm per meter at 20°. Both are per-meter figures, which is worth keeping in mind on a machine that can be 30 m long. The guideways are Bosch Rexroth units with high-precision ball carriages, driven by brushless servo motors under a NUM CNC control.

04 Which cutting heads fit the ByJet?

The 2D head, the angular error compensation head and the 3D head. The compensation head works over +/- 12 degrees on its A and B axes and corrects the angular error to +/- 0.05 mm. The 3D head reaches up to +/- 68 degrees on the A-axis and +/- 720 degrees on the C-axis. Pivot axes run at 360 degrees/sec, and multiple cutting heads and multiple Z-axes are listed.

05 What pump does the ByJet use?

No pump is fixed for the model. STM says the high-pressure pumps it fits provide, depending on the requirements, up to 6000 bar with a connected load of 11-75 kW and 1 – 10 litres per minute. The control unit itself is stated to need 2 kW. Pump size should follow the number of heads, since STM also offers parallel cutting with several heads.
