Price estimate
We do not have a price for the STM PremiumCut that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The STM PremiumCut is the high-performance gantry in STM's waterjet line, the model the maker points to for high accuracy at high speed and for tube processing. It traverses at up to 40 m/min, holds an X/Y positioning accuracy of ± 0.02 mm per meter at 20 °C with ± 0.01 mm repeat accuracy, and is compatible with every STM cutting head.
That head compatibility is the reason to buy it. The 2D head, the TAC head for angular error compensation and the 3D head can all be fitted, and STM says several different heads can be installed on one PremiumCut. The 3D head works up to +/- 68 degrees on its A-axis and +/- 720 degrees on the C-axis, and the data sheet gives both the A-axis and C-axis feed as 360 °/sec. Z-axis clearances of 300/600/900 mm leave room for tall parts and for the swing of a tilted head.
Six standard work surfaces appear in STM's size graphic, coded 1020, 1530, 2040, 3020, 4020 and 6020, with other sizes on request. The basin is welded and milled from aluminum and stainless steel, and the X and Y axes run on Bosch Rexroth guides with high precision ball carriages. Brushless servo motors drive the axes under a NUM CNC control, programmed through STM SmartCut.
STM's two documents disagree on support load. The 2024 data sheet gives heavy duty supports for workpieces up to 1,300 kg/m², while the product page prints 1,000 kg/m². Confirm the figure for the table size you order if you cut thick plate.
Most of what turns the base machine into a production cell is optional: additional CNC Z-axes with 2D or 3D heads, additional cutting valves on their own Z-axis or on a cantilever, the STM Pipe cutting module, automatic water level control, a pneumatic or electric drilling spindle, and an abrasive storage tank for 450 kg or 1,650 kg.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Compatible with all STM cutting heads, and several different heads can be installed on one machine
- Traversing speed up to 40 m/min with X/Y positioning accuracy of ± 0.02 mm per meter at 20 °C
- Z-axis clearances of 300/600/900 mm for tall workpieces and tilted-head work
- Six standard work surfaces from 1020 to 6020 in STM's size graphic, with other sizes on request
- Tube machining can be integrated in the X-axis with the STM Pipe cutting module
- 3D head reaches up to +/- 68 degrees on the A-axis for bevel and 5-axis cuts
Limitations
- Support load is 1,300 kg/m² in the data sheet but 1,000 kg/m² on the product page, so the rating needs confirming
- Additional Z-axes, the pipe cutting module, automatic water level control and the drilling spindle are all options
- The work surfaces are given only as size codes in a graphic, without printed dimensions
- No pump is fixed for the model; pressure and connected load depend on the pump selected

Frequently Asked Questions
01
All of them. STM describes the PremiumCut as compatible with all its cutting heads: the 2D head, the TAC head for angular error compensation, with a working range of +/- 12 degrees on its A and B axes, and the 3D head, with up to +/- 68 degrees on the A-axis and +/- 720 degrees on the C-axis. Several different heads can be installed on the same machine, on additional CNC Z-axes.
02
STM's work-surface graphic shows six standard sizes, coded 1020, 1530, 2040, 3020, 4020 and 6020. The graphic gives the codes only, not dimensions in millimetres, so ask STM for the exact cutting range of each. Other sizes beyond those listed are possible on request, since the range is built as a modular system.
03
The 2024 data sheet gives X/Y positioning accuracy of ± 0.02 mm and X/Y repeat accuracy of ± 0.01 mm, both per meter at 20 °C. Traversing speed is up to 40 m/min. The A-axis and C-axis of a swivelling head feed at 360 °/sec. Those are positioning figures for the axes; the edge of a cut part also depends on the jet and on material thickness.
04
STM gives two figures. The 2024 data sheet states heavy duty supports for workpieces up to 1,300 kg/m², and the product page states up to 1,000 kg/m². Until STM confirms which applies to your table size, plan heavy plate work around the lower value.
05
Yes, as an option. The data sheet lists the STM Pipe cutting module among the options, and the product page says tube machining can be integrated in the X-axis. STM names tube processing, alongside high accuracy and high speed, as one of the tasks this model is meant for.
