How much does the AKS Cutting Systems water-kut X2 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the AKS Cutting Systems water-kut X2 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The AKS water-kut X2 is the entry model of the company's three abrasive waterjets, and the only one built as a unitized, one-piece frame. It cuts up to 6 ft (1.83 m) wide and up to 12 ft (3.66 m) long, in table sizes of 5 ft x 5 ft, 5 ft x 10 ft and 6 ft x 12 ft, with a travel speed of 1,200 ipm (30.5 m/min) and motion accuracy of +/- 0.003 in per 3 ft.
Both horizontal axes are driven by helical rack and pinion: dual synchronized drives on X and a single drive on the Y-axis bridge. That is the plasma-table recipe applied to a waterjet, and it explains why the X2 is the fastest-travelling of the three. The Z axis is a programmable ball screw with 9.8 in (249 mm) of travel. Absolute encoders mean the machine does not have to be homed at each power-up.
According to the brochure the X2 comes standard with a KMT TRILINE direct drive pump at 55,000 psi (3,792 bar) and can be upgraded to a KMT PRO-3 intensifier at 90,000 psi (6,205 bar). The product page lists eight pump choices in all, from 30 hp (22.4 kW) to 125 hp (93.2 kW). Pump selection has more effect on cutting speed than anything in the motion system, so it deserves most of the attention in a quotation.
The cutting table carries a full plate up to 6 in (152 mm) thick. Abrasive is fed from a 670 lb (304 kg) bulk hopper to an adjustable mini-hopper on the bridge. Control is a Mitsubishi M80W industrial CNC with a 19 in (483 mm) color touch screen, programmed through a Metamation software package with CAM and automatic true shape nesting.
Several items that are standard on the larger models are options here: the automatic touch probe, the collision sensor, submerged cutting with water level raise and lower, the laser pointer, the garnet removal system and the closed-loop water recycling system.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Travel speed of 1,200 ipm (30.5 m/min), faster than the 800 ipm (20.3 m/min) of the water-kut X3
- Unitized one-piece frame with a table rated for a 6 in (152 mm) thick full plate
- Pump choices from a 55,000 psi (3,792 bar) direct drive up to a 90,000 psi (6,205 bar) intensifier
- 670 lb (304 kg) bulk abrasive hopper with a low abrasive sensor
- Mitsubishi M80W industrial CNC with a 19 in (483 mm) color touch screen
- Absolute encoders, so no homing at power-up
Limitations
- Largest table is 6 ft x 12 ft; the water-kut X3 goes to 8 ft x 20 ft
- Automatic touch probe, collision sensor, laser pointer and submerged cutting are options on this model
- The standard pump is the 55,000 psi (3,792 bar) direct drive unit; 90,000 psi (6,205 bar) is an upgrade
- No taper control system appears in the X2 accessory list, unlike the two larger models

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The brochure says the X2 comes standard with a KMT TRILINE direct drive pump at 55,000 psi (3,792 bar) and can be upgraded to the KMT PRO-3 intensifier at 90,000 psi (6,205 bar). The product page's pump table also lists KMT NEO and SL-VI intensifiers at 60,000 psi, in sizes from 30 hp (22.4 kW) to 100 hp (74.6 kW).
02
The product page lists 5 ft x 5 ft, 5 ft x 10 ft and 6 ft x 12 ft. Maximum cut width is up to 6 ft (1.83 m) and maximum cut length up to 12 ft (3.66 m). AKS's brochure states that both of the larger sizes use the same chassis, drives and features.
03
The X2 is a unitized bridge machine with a travel speed of 1,200 ipm (30.5 m/min) and tables up to 6 ft x 12 ft. The water-kut X3 is a 3-sided open cantilever design listed at 800 ipm (20.3 m/min) with tables up to 8 ft x 20 ft. Both are listed at +/- 0.003 in per 3 ft motion accuracy.
04
A Mitsubishi M80W industrial CNC controller from the M8 Series, with a 19 in (483 mm) color touch screen operator console and Mitsubishi servo motors and drives on the X, Y and Z axes. Programming and nesting are done in a Metamation software package.
05
The Z axis is a programmable ball screw with 9.8 in (249 mm) of travel. The table is rated for a full plate up to 6 in (152 mm) thick. An automatic touch probe, which keeps the nozzle stand-off consistent on warped material, is an option on this model.
