Flex Machine Tools FL-1004 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Flex Machine Tools FL-1004 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Flex Machine Tools or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training

Overview

The Flex Machine Tools FL-1004 is an abrasive waterjet with a long, narrow cutting envelope: 120″ of X travel, 48″ of Y and 10″ of Z. X is two and a half times Y, a shape that takes a 48″-wide sheet lengthwise and lets a nest run down its length in one setup.

Two siblings bracket it. The FL-0404 shares the 48″ of Y and the 10″ of Z but stops at 48″ of X, so long stock has to be cut or repositioned on that machine. The F-1065 shares the 120″ of X and widens Y to 78″, with 12″ of Z. Between the FL-1004 and the F-1065 the question is simply whether the material is ever wider than 48″.

Cutting is by a 30 HP pump rated at 60,000 PSI through a fixed conventional cutting head, which cuts square to the sheet. Long nests use abrasive steadily. The standard bulk hopper holds 500 lb on continuous fill, and Flex lists a 2500 lb continuous-fill hopper as an option for shops that would otherwise be refilling in the middle of a sheet.

Maximum traverse speed is 600 in/min, which matters more here than on a short machine because the head has 120″ to cross between parts at opposite ends of a nest. Repeatability is 0.001 in and ballbar circularity is listed as less than 0.003 in. A 22″ touch screen HMI sits on a roll-around control, so the operator can bring it to whichever end of the travel is being loaded, and a hand pendant is included. Slats are galvanized steel and the supply is 3-phase, 480V.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 120″ of X travel on 48″ of Y, so a 48″-wide sheet can be cut along its length in one setup
  • 30 HP pump rated at 60,000 PSI feeding a fixed conventional cutting head
  • 600 in/min maximum traverse speed for moves along the 120″ axis
  • The 22″ touch screen HMI is on a roll-around control that can be moved to where the operator is loading; a hand pendant is also listed
  • Repeatability of 0.001 in; ballbar circularity listed as less than 0.003 in

Limitations

  • Y travel is 48″; material wider than that needs the 78″ of Y on the F-1065
  • Z travel is 10″, against 12″ on the F-1065 and FLX-1365
  • Only a fixed conventional cutting head is in the table for this model
  • The 2500 lb continuous-fill abrasive hopper is an option; 500 lb is standard

Best For

Nesting parts along a 48″-wide sheet up to 120″ long Long, narrow parts such as strips, rails and panels Square-edged cutting with a fixed conventional head Shops that need more X than the 48″ of the FL-0404 without a wider machine

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What sheet size does the FL-1004 handle?

The cutting travel is 120″ in X by 48″ in Y, with 10″ of Z. A sheet 48″ wide and up to 120″ long is within reach of the head in one setup. Flex's table gives travels, not table dimensions or load capacity, so check those if the plate is heavy or oversize.

02 Should I choose the FL-1004 or the F-1065?

Both have 120″ of X travel. The F-1065 has 78″ of Y and 12″ of Z, where the FL-1004 has 48″ of Y and 10″ of Z. If the material is never wider than 48″, the FL-1004 covers it; wider plate needs the F-1065.

03 How fast does the FL-1004 move?

Maximum traverse speed is 600 in/min. That is the rate at which the head repositions between cuts along the 120″ and 48″ axes. It is not a cutting speed: cutting rate depends on the material and its thickness, and the table gives no figure for it.

04 When is the larger abrasive hopper worth having on the FL-1004?

The standard bulk hopper is 500 lb on continuous fill and the option is 2500 lb on continuous fill. A machine with 120″ of X is often run on long nests, where abrasive use is steady for the whole sheet. If the 500 lb hopper would need refilling during a shift, the larger one keeps the machine cutting.

05 What electrical supply does the FL-1004 need?

3-phase, 480V. The table lists a 30 HP pump rated at 60,000 PSI but does not state the full-load current, so get the installation drawing from Flex before sizing the breaker and cable.
