Overview
The Palmary OCD-65150 is the short model of Palmary's largest-swing cylindrical grinders: Ø650 mm (25.6 in) over the table, Ø620 mm (24.4 in) of grinding diameter and 1,500 mm (59.1 in) between centers. It is a CNC machine in the heavy duty OCD series with an 800 kg (1,764 lb) load rating.
The extra swing over the OCD-45150 changes two things on the spec sheet. The wheel grows to Ø610 mm with a 203.2 mm bore, still 50 to 125 mm wide. And the workhead servo motor nearly doubles to 5.5 kW (7.4 hp), because turning a part of this diameter at a controlled speed takes torque. Speed range is 0 to 210 rpm.
Large diameter and short length together describe rolls, drums and big journals more than shafts. The table stroke of 1,970 mm (77.6 in) gives plenty of run-off, and the table swivels -1° to 5°. The wheelhead moves 350 mm (13.8 in), which matters here: with a wheel and a workpiece both this large, the range of diameters reachable without re-setting the wheelhead is set by that stroke.
The grinding motor stays at 11 kW (14.8 hp) and peripheral speed at 33 m/s (6,496 ft/min). Total power is 33 kVA. Palmary lists the machine at 12,000 kg (26,455 lb), the same figure it gives for the smaller-swing model. A FANUC CNC controller, hydraulic tailstock and linear scale on X are standard.
