Overview
The Quicktech MiniMax 25i Twin is a sliding-headstock lathe for 25 mm (1.0 in) bar with a sub-spindle and live tools on both sides. It is the fully equipped column of the four in the maker's MiniMax 25i table, and the only one in which the sub-spindle, X2 and Z2 rows are filled in. Main and sub-spindle both run to 8,000 rpm.
A sliding-headstock machine exists to cut long, thin parts close to their support, and to drop them off complete. The Twin covers the second half of that. Its sub-spindle takes the same 25 mm (1.0 in) bar through the same SR-25R chuck and 27 mm (1.1 in) bore as the main spindle, travels 300 mm (11.8 in) in X2 and 230 mm (9.1 in) in Z2, and faces its own tool block: the table lists ID tools for the sub-spindle as 3+4 (Ø20 mm, ER-16M) and 3 motorized tools (ER-11M) (Axial x3). Turning length on the sub-spindle is 30 mm (1.2 in), so the back end is for facing, drilling, tapping and short turned features.
On the main side there are 7 OD tools on □12 mm shanks, 3 ID positions and 6 motorized tools on ER-16M collets, three axial and three radial. Motorized tools run to 4,000 rpm on a 1.0 kW (1.3 hp) motor. Tools stand in a row on the gang slide, and the maker points out that there is very little movement from one tool to the next.
The spindle motor row gives 3.7 kW (5.0 hp) for main and sub-spindle. Quicktech aims the series at mass production of complex 25mm parts and names medical and IT parts. The machine is small, 2,000 kg (4,409 lb), and runs on a Mitsubishi M80.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Sub-spindle with the same 25 mm (1.0 in) bar capacity and 8,000 rpm as the main spindle
- Live tools on both sides: 6 (ER-16M) on the main spindle and 3 (ER-11M) on the sub-spindle
- Sub-spindle axes of 300 mm (11.8 in) in X2 and 230 mm (9.1 in) in Z2
- Guide bush marked ○ in the table for this version
- Only 2,000 kg (4,409 lb), with a 110 L coolant tank
Limitations
- Turning length on the sub-spindle is 30 mm (1.2 in)
- Main and sub-spindle motors are 3.7 kW (5.0 hp), which suits small-diameter work only
- Motorized tools are limited to 4,000 rpm and a 1.0 kW (1.3 hp) motor
- The maker's size row is printed without a unit, so footprint has to be confirmed

Frequently Asked Questions
01
A sub-spindle and its tooling. The MiniMax 25i Mill has the same main spindle and the same 6 motorized tools on the main side, but its sub-spindle, X2 and Z2 rows are blank. The Twin lists a sub-spindle for 25 mm (1.0 in) bar at 8,000 rpm, with X2 of 300 mm (11.8 in), Z2 of 230 mm (9.1 in) and 3 motorized tools of its own.
02
The table lists 7 OD tools (□12 mm) and 3 ID tools (Ø20) for the main spindle, ID tools for the sub-spindle as 3+4 (Ø20 mm, ER-16M), 6 motorized tools (ER-16M) on the main spindle and 3 (ER-11M) on the sub-spindle. Quicktech's text for the series speaks of a maximum tooling capacity of 23tools.
03
Both spindles take 25 mm (1.0 in) bar through a 27 mm (1.1 in) bore with an SR-25R chuck and run to 8,000 rpm. The motor row for main spindle / sub spindle reads 3.7 kW (5.0 hp). Maximum length for front ejection is 100 mm (3.9 in).
04
A Mitsubishi M80, as on all four MiniMax 25i versions. Axis motors are 1.0 kW (1.3 hp), and the axes run on HIWIN linear guideways with 25mm rails according to the maker.
