Overview

The Quicktech MiniMax 25i Mill is the single-spindle, live-tool version of the maker's 25 mm (1.0 in) sliding-headstock lathe. It has the gang slide and the 6 motorized tools of the top model but no sub-spindle, so parts leave the machine with the cut-off face as parted.

Six live positions is the figure that defines it. The table lists them as 6 (ER-16M) (Axial x3 + Radial x3): three tools pointing along the spindle axis for off-centre end drilling, three across it for cross-holes and flats. They turn at up to 4,000 rpm on a 1.0 kW (1.3 hp) motor. That is light milling power. It handles small drills, taps and slitting cuts in a 25 mm bar; a wide slot in stainless will take several passes.

Fixed tooling is 7 OD tools on □12 mm shanks and 3 ID tools at Ø20. The slide moves 160 mm (6.3 in) in X1 and 300 mm (11.8 in) in Y1, the long Y stroke being what carries the row of tools past the bar. Z1 is 100 mm (3.9 in), and the maximum length for front ejection is listed as 100 mm (3.9 in) too.

The spindle runs to 8,000 rpm on a 3.7 kW (5.0 hp) motor, with an SR-25R chuck and a 27 mm (1.1 in) bore. The guide bush row is marked ○ for this version. According to Quicktech the axes use HIWIN linear guideways with 25mm rails. The control is a Mitsubishi M80, the coolant tank holds 110 L, and the whole machine weighs 2,000 kg (4,409 lb).

Strengths

  • 6 motorized tools on ER-16M collets, three axial and three radial
  • 8,000 rpm spindle for small-diameter bar
  • 7 OD tools and 3 ID tools on the gang slide alongside the live tools
  • Y1 travel of 300 mm (11.8 in) to reach the full tool row

Limitations

  • No sub-spindle: the sub-spindle, X2 and Z2 rows are blank for this version
  • Motorized tool motor is 1.0 kW (1.3 hp) at a maximum of 4,000 rpm
  • Bar capacity stops at 25 mm (1.0 in)
  • ID positions drop to 3, where the turning-only MiniMax 25i Eco lists 6

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Does the MiniMax 25i Mill have a sub-spindle?

No. In the maker's four-column table only the MiniMax 25i Twin has sub-spindle figures. The Mill column shares the Twin's main spindle and its 6 motorized tools on the main side, and leaves the sub-spindle rows blank.

02 What live tooling does it have?

The row for motorized tools on the main spindle reads 6 (ER-16M) (Axial x3 + Radial x3). Maximum speed is 4,000 rpm and the motor is 1.0 kW (1.3 hp).

03 How does the Mill differ from the MiniMax 25i Eco?

The MiniMax 25i Eco has no motorized tools; its live-tool rows are blank and it lists 6 ID tools (Ø20) where the Mill lists 3. Spindle, travels, control and the 2,000 kg (4,409 lb) weight are the same in both columns.

04 What bar size and speed does the spindle handle?

Maximum bar working diameter is 25 mm (1.0 in), through a 27 mm (1.1 in) spindle bore with an SR-25R chuck. Maximum speed is 8,000 rpm and the spindle motor is 3.7 kW (5.0 hp).
