Overview

Turning, drilling and boring from 25 mm (1.0 in) bar, with nothing else to set up: that is the Quicktech MiniMax 25i Eco. It is the turning-only column of the maker's MiniMax 25i table. The rows for motorized tools and for the sub-spindle are blank, and what remains is a sliding-headstock lathe with a guide bush, an 8,000 rpm spindle and a gang slide of fixed tools.

Leaving out the live tools frees room on the slide. The Eco lists 6 ID tools at Ø20, twice the 3 of the MiniMax 25i Mill, next to the same 7 OD tools on □12 mm shanks. For parts that are all diameters, grooves, threads and centre holes, that is the more useful arrangement: more drills, boring bars and reamers stay mounted, and fewer jobs need a tool swap between batches.

Travel figures match the rest of the series. X1 is 160 mm (6.3 in), Y1 is 300 mm (11.8 in) and Z1 is 100 mm (3.9 in). The spindle motor is 3.7 kW (5.0 hp) and each axis motor 1.0 kW (1.3 hp). The chuck is the SR-25R with a 27 mm (1.1 in) spindle bore, and the maximum length for front ejection is 100 mm (3.9 in).

Quicktech's page says motorized tools are provided as optional for the series, which suggests a path from this version towards the Mill; ask the maker whether a machine can be upgraded later. Hydraulics run at 50 kg/cm² from a 1 HP motor with a 15 L tank. The control is a Mitsubishi M80 and the weight 2,000 kg (4,409 lb).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 6 ID tool positions (Ø20) together with 7 OD tools (□12 mm) on the gang slide
  • 8,000 rpm spindle with a 3.7 kW (5.0 hp) motor
  • Guide bush marked ○ in the maker's table
  • A single tool system to program, on a Mitsubishi M80 control

Limitations

  • No motorized tools: cross-holes and flats need another machine or another version
  • No sub-spindle, so the cut-off end is not machined
  • Z1 travel is 100 mm (3.9 in)
  • Limited to 25 mm (1.0 in) bar
06

Best For

Purely turned parts from 25 mm (1.0 in) bar: pins, bushes, spacers, threaded studs Jobs with several centre-line drilling and boring steps that use the 6 ID positions High-volume work where live tooling would go unused

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is left out on the MiniMax 25i Eco?

Live tools and the sub-spindle. Both groups of rows are blank in the Eco column of the maker's table. The MiniMax 25i Mill adds 6 motorized tools, and the MiniMax 25i Twin adds those plus a sub-spindle.

02 How many tools does it hold?

The table lists 7 OD tools on □12 mm shanks and 6 ID tools at Ø20 for the main spindle. Quicktech describes the tooling block of the series as built around 12mm turning and drilling tools.

03 What is the difference between the Eco and the MiniMax 25i GBL?

One row. The guide bush is marked ○ for the Eco and △ (option) for the MiniMax 25i GBL. All other figures in the two columns are identical, including the 6 ID tools, the 8,000 rpm spindle and the 2,000 kg (4,409 lb) weight.

04 What are the travels?

X1 is 160 mm (6.3 in), Y1 is 300 mm (11.8 in) and Z1 is 100 mm (3.9 in). The X2 and Z2 rows apply only to the version with a sub-spindle.
