Overview
The Palmary VIG-50 is a CNC vertical grinder with a Ø550 mm (21.7 in) face plate and an automatic wheel changer. It grinds outside diameters from Ø38 to 500 mm, bores, and end faces on parts up to 410 mm (16.1 in) long and 500 kg (1,102 lb).
The wheel changer is what makes a vertical grinder productive. Palmary's ATC holds up to 6 grinding wheels on HSK-E63 holders, so one clamping can use a small wheel for a bore, a larger one for the outside and another for a face, each with the right diameter and grit. Four holders and four wheels are supplied as standard. For face grinding the wheel spindle can be swivelled to 22.5°.
The spindle is a built-in type of 15 kW (20.1 hp) running from 2,700 to 15,000 rpm, taking wheels of Ø40 to 205 mm at 45 m/s (8,858 ft/min). The table turns at 20 to 220 rpm on a 3.7 kW (5.0 hp) motor. Maximum outside grinding length is 350 mm (13.8 in); bore depth depends on diameter, 200 mm below Ø200 and 350 mm above.
X travels 970 mm (38.2 in) and Z 550 mm (21.7 in) at up to 10 m/min, with 0.0001 mm setting units and fully closed loop scales. The bed is a honeycomb tubular casting, and Palmary isolates the coolant flow from it to limit thermal deformation. Coolant capacity is 600 L (158.5 gal). The controller is FANUC with gap control. Weight is 7,000 kg (15,432 lb), power 30 kVA.
