Palmary OCD-45220

The Palmary OCD-45220 is a heavy duty CNC cylindrical grinder with 2,200 mm (86.6 in) between centers and Ø450 mm (17.7 in) of swing. It is the second of four bed lengths in the OCD-45 series, all of which carry 800 kg (1,764 lb) between centers and grind up to Ø420 mm (16.5 in).

This is roughly where Palmary's standard range stops. The longest standard model, the OCD-42200, reaches 2,000 mm (78.7 in) and is rated for 150 kg (331 lb). A solid shaft of that length is far heavier than that, which is the gap the OCD-45220 fills. Palmary's own list of applications is oversized gear shafts, printing shafts, rolling shafts, motor shafts and rollers.

Table stroke is 2,750 mm (108.3 in). The table swivel narrows with length, as on every long grinder: 0° to 4° here. Rapid traverse is 10 m/min (394 ipm), driven by a 4.4 kW (5.9 hp) servo motor, and the wheelhead moves 350 mm (13.8 in).

Palmary says the workhead runs in precision bevel bearings and is driven by a servo motor with stepless speed change; the table gives 2.9 kW (3.9 hp) and 0 to 210 rpm. The head itself is fixed. Up front, an 11 kW (14.8 hp) motor turns a Ø510 mm wheel. Coolant capacity is 230 L (60.8 gal). The machine weighs 14,000 kg (30,864 lb) and requires 30 kVA.
